Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown/Medsurg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Weekend night shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Epic experience is essential. Description: The unit is a 29-bed stepdown and med/surg unit. It is transitioning to a flex unit that serves both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs. The patient population is diverse, primarily with medical diagnoses. Nurse-patient ratios for stepdown are 3:1, and for the floor, they are 6:1. Nurses will be required to handle a maximum of 6 patients on the med-surg floor or 3 patients in stepdown. RNs will have orders written to titrate drips, including but not limited to heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, and PCAs for medications such as morphine, dilaudid, and fentanyl. There are charge RNs and house supervisors present 24/7. Charge RNs may take an assignment initially, but the goal is to have a free charge RN at all times. Clinical Associates (CAs) are present, targeting a ratio of 1 CA per 10 patients. CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen are available on the stepdown unit. Ventilators are present in stepdown, but any adjustments to ventilator settings will be directed to ICU. There is a central telemetry monitoring system; RNs are not expected to read their own telemetry strips. Nurses should expect to work approximately half of all recognized holidays. Flexible scheduling is encouraged, with block scheduling requests considered, though not guaranteed. There is no call or standby requirement for this position. Nurses may be required to float to other units as needed. Scrub color is any combination of royal blue and white.
