Project Quality Manager - Power EPC
Kiewit
Requisition ID: 180819 Job Level: Senior Level Home District/Group: Kiewit Quality Department: Quality Market: Corporate Home Office Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview Our Quality Managers are boots on the ground in the field and work the duration of the project to ensure the construction is performed to the highest quality standards. In this role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and management of a contract‑specific Project Quality Plan (PQP) and all other quality related functions necessary to deliver the project fully compliant with the contract documents. The PQM is a member of the project management team, and therefore must be able to work with minimal supervision, interact professionally with the project team and client personnel, have excellent written / verbal communication and conflict resolution skills, manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively, have a Continuous Improvement (CI) and Total Quality Management (TQM) mentality, and take the lead role in managing quality on the project. District Overview Kiewit’s Quality Group is a shared service that maintains and executes quality standards on projects across the company. Our principal quality objectives are to meet or exceed clients’ expectations and to eliminate rework by performing our work “right the first time.” We monitor our performance against these objectives and require continual improvement. Location This is a highly travel‑based role supporting projects across the Midwest. Candidates should expect frequent travel and extended time in the field depending on project needs. Responsibilities Manage the development and implementation of a contract‑specific Project Quality Plan (PQP) and review and approve subcontractor quality plans to ensure compliance with contractual requirements. Ensure quality staff is adequately assigned, trained, and qualified to execute the PQP and that all project staff has access to the appropriate quality resources. Implement and oversee a Quality Assurance Program in a construction environment, including issues management, nonconformance reporting, subcontractor oversight, internal assessments/audits, causal analysis, commercial grade dedication, inspections, procurement oversight, commissioning, and turnover. Lead and mentor junior QA/QC personnel to ensure correct behaviors are developed and reinforced. Maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with the Client team while understanding their requirements and expectations and reinforcing a construction safety culture. Interpret quality standards and regulatory requirements and define implementation strategies. Collaborate closely with district quality management to ensure consistent implementation across the company. Coordinate and perform causal analysis investigations on project‑related issues. Coordinate and perform QA audits and assessments on the QMS, PQP, subcontractor quality plans, and other processes or procedures (which may include other business unit functions), document findings, and assign or implement effective corrective action. Analyze findings to identify trends that could be potential risks to the project, and work with the project management team to develop and implement mitigation strategies to reduce those risks. Promote Continuous Improvement and report timely all conditions that affect the project. Be actively engaged in operation planning sessions, providing input from a Quality standpoint and ensuring that Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) are developed for all operations. Ensure that all quality documentation required for project turnover is completed, compliant with contractual requirements, and stored in an organized manner. Routinely speak and/or present at meetings to promote quality goals and objectives and to discuss issues. Perform routine performance reviews with all project quality staff. Assist in the oversight of the quality program under a more senior Quality Manager, as needed. Experience leading and mentoring junior QA/QC personnel. Qualifications A four‑year degree in engineering, science, or a technical college degree with a minimum of five years of quality experience, performing functions as outlined above for an EPC or industrial environment, or an associate’s degree in engineering technology/science with a minimum of eight years of quality experience, with at least five of those years in an EPC or industrial quality position. If no degree, high‑school graduate or equivalent (GED) with fifteen or more years of experience in a related construction field and/or engineering, with at least ten years in a quality position. A thorough knowledge, understanding, and experience implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) for construction projects. A self‑starter with organizational, managerial, and leadership skills, able to manage teams or quality crews, and with effective organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills. Strong verbal and technical writing skills, able to communicate to large groups of craft personnel as well as management and client teams. ASQ Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence (CMQ/OE) or similar certification is recommended. Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide‑ranging climates and environments. Working knowledge of construction industry codes, standards, and jurisdictional requirements (ASSHTO, ACI, AWS, ASME, NEC, etc.) associated with the work. Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification is preferred, but not required. Other Requirements Regular, reliable attendance. Work productively and meet deadlines timely. Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment. Perform work safely and effectively, following oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines; work overtime and weekends as required. May work at various different locations; conditions may vary. We offer our full‑time staff employees a comprehensive benefits package that’s among the best in our industry, including top‑tier medical, dental and vision plans covering eligible employees and dependents, voluntary wellness and employee assistance programs, life insurance, disability, retirement plans with matching, and generous paid time off.
