School Psychologist

Conducts extensive psychological examinations of students. Interprets diagnoses to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents, and the student, and recommends corrective procedures. Makes recommendations on ways to assist a student referred for examination. Conducts individual, group, or facilitative therapy for students who diagnosed problem would benefit from behavior modification.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in School Psychology required- Holds a South Carolina teaching certificate with a school psychologist endorsement II or III
- Has experience in supervisory roles
- Demonstrates ability to support and evaluate school psychologists
- Possesses high moral standards and integrity
- Possesses strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrates professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with children, parents, school personnel and other members of the community
- Possesses ability to learn quickly and apply new technology
- Demonstrates strong organizational and management skills
- Demonstrates ability to prepare and disseminate written reports within required timelines
- Possesses the ability to travel to more than one work location on the course of the day if assigned to an itinerant position
- Possesses sufficient strength, agility, dexterity, and mobility to carry out all performance responsibilities
- Supervises and evaluates performance of staff level school psychologists
- Supervises school psychologists in selection of appropriate assessment instruments, reviews psychological reports and provides follow up support as appropriate
- Assists school intervention teams in developing appropriate interventions strategies prior to a referral for evaluation
- Selects and administers evaluation instruments to children referred for consideration for special education services or for re-evaluation
- Interprets test results to parents and school personnel
- Consults with school personnel, agency personnel and parents on psychological matters involving students
- Provides counseling services to students
- Provides training and workshops to students, parents, school personnel and school psychologists
- Serves on school-wide committees and task forces when requested
- Serves as a contributing member on school-based trans-disciplinary teams when appropriate
- Identifies, coordinates, and participates in professional growth activities for school psychologists
- Maintains accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation
- Serves as a learning consultant to school colleagues
- Serves as member of special education eligibility committees
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director of Special Services and/or school principal
Has knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the position.

Attendance : Attends and remains at work regularly and adheres to policies and procedures regarding absenteeism and tardiness. Provides adequate notice to higher management with respect to vacation time and leave requests. Initiative and Enthusiasm : Maintains an enthusiastic, self-reliant and self-starting approach to meet job responsibilities and accountabilities. Strives to anticipate work to be accomplished and initiates proper and acceptable action for the completion of work with a minimum of supervision and instruction. Judgment : Exercises analytical judgment in areas of responsibility. Identifies issues or situations as they occur and specifies decision objectives. Identifies or assists in identifying alternative solutions to issues or situations. Implements decisions in accordance with prescribed and effective policies and procedures and with a minimum of errors. Seeks expert or experienced advice where appropriate and researches issues, situations and alternatives before exercising judgment. Cooperation : Accepts supervisory instruction and direction and strives to meet the goals and objectives of same. Questions such instruction and direction when clarification of results or consequences are justified, i.e., poor communications, variance with established policies or procedures, etc. Offers suggestions and recommendations to encourage and improve cooperation intra- and inter-departmentally. Relationships with Others : Shares knowledge with managers, supervisors and co-workers for mutual benefit. Contributes to maintaining high morale among all employees. Develops and maintains cooperative and courteous relationships inter- and intra-departmentally, and with external entities with whom the position interacts. Tactfully and effectively handles requests, suggestions and complaints to establish and maintain good will. Emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive image. Coordination of Work : Plans and organizes daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology. Avoids duplication of effort. Estimates expected time of completion of work elements and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Attends required meetings, planning sessions and discussions on time. Implements work activity in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
Safety and Housekeeping : Adheres to all established safety and housekeeping standards. Ensures such standards are not violated.
