Gas Engineer

Applies engineering principles to design and install distribution system in a safe, efficient and practical manner. Manages project during field installations. Responsibilities Perform engineering design, calculations, estimates, studies and coordination of gas distribution facilities installations. Analyze load, pressure requirements, future growth and other variables during the design process. Oversee the layout, sizing and specification of pipeline equipment, provide economic justifications and offer indirect supervision of others when project teamwork is required. Create engineering drawings and effectively communicate design details to field personnel and contractors. Conduct distribution system pressure and cathodic protection studies. Make and maintain external contacts to assure that materials, supplies and information are available as needed and that information is exchanged with external sources, agencies and local utilities on line locations and planned projects. Prepare economic justification (concise, factual and conclusive statements of the purpose, merits and necessity) for each project proposed to assist management with evaluation of capital investment. This includes budget items and completion reports for specific construction projects. Review completed work orders and cost data to assure conformance with plans and acceptability of construction charges. Update estimated unit prices as needed. Assist in evaluation of system operations and troubleshoot problems. Education Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Civil or another approved engineering discipline from an accredited college or university. Experience Requires a minimum of two years experience in utility design or related project construction design. Knowledge, Skills, Licenses/Certifications, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics (KSLA) Demonstrate and apply excellent oral and written communication skills. Communicate and interact with all levels of management and associates and perform well in a team environment. Represent the Company in a professional manner in matters and meetings with both private and public entities and officials. Cultivate relationships and partner with business and community contacts to achieve business results. Collaborate across functional boundaries to improve business processes. Use PC software proficiently, including word processing, presentation and spreadsheet programs. Learn and use mainframe computer and PC software, including SAP EDS & FIN modules, MicroStation, Stoner and ArcInfo. Motivate self, accomplish tasks and achieve goals with minimal supervision including self-directed learning. Identify solutions to problems with creativity and innovative thinking. Demonstrate effective project management and time management to meet project deadlines and remain within budget. Multi-task and manage several projects or activities at one time. Apply initiative, good judgment, and tact to complete assigned tasks. Apply extensive knowledge of company policies and procedures and DOT CFR 192 regulations. Make sound decisions based on engineering and operational principles and Company policies. Provide and maintain a valid state driver's license and safe driving record. Operate a company vehicle in compliance with applicable laws and company policies.
