Job Title: Panel Builder Job Description

This role focuses on building, wiring, installing, and testing industrial control panels, electrical systems, and automated equipment. You will use electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings to install components such as PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, relays, and power distribution systems. You will perform point-to-point wiring, conduit installation, electrical troubleshooting, system startup, and functional testing, while ensuring all work complies with NEC standards and safety requirements.

• Build and assemble industrial control panels and electrical assemblies according to schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Install and wire components including PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, sensors, relays, switches, sockets, and power distribution systems.
• Perform point-to-point panel wiring and conduit installation using appropriate hand tools and equipment.
• Interpret electrical schematics and blueprints to ensure accurate layout, routing, and termination of wiring and components.
• Conduct electrical troubleshooting on panels and automated equipment to identify and resolve wiring, component, and system issues.
• Execute system startup and functional testing of control panels and related equipment to verify proper operation and performance.
• Use electrical test equipment to validate circuits, connections, and system integrity in accordance with NEC standards and internal procedures.
• Ensure all work meets applicable electrical codes, NEC requirements, and safety standards in a manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with other team members in the shop to support panel building, electrical assembly, and related tasks as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and handle tools, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently.

• 35 years of panel building experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
• Hands-on experience with control panel assembly and panel wiring, including motors, switches, sockets, and relays.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills for control panels, motor controls, and automated equipment.
• Ability to perform point-to-point wiring and conduit installation using hand tools and electrical equipment.
• Experience working with industrial automation systems and manufacturing machinery.
• Familiarity with NEC standards and electrical safety requirements.
• Journeymans card or equivalent journeyman-level electrical qualification.

• Experience installing and wiring PLCs, VFDs, and motor control systems.
• Comfort working with electrical test equipment to verify circuits and system functionality.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow technical documentation accurately.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple builds and tasks in a shop environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with a small electrician team and broader shop staff.
• Willingness to assist with additional tasks and projects during downtime to support overall operations.

You will join a close-knit organization with a small company feel where approximately 50 people, including office and sales staff, work together in a collaborative environment. Leadership is highly engaged and visible on the floor, fostering a culture of support and hands-on involvement. The team enjoys a friendly atmosphere with activities such as chili cook-offs, cornhole games, and company picnics that encourage camaraderie. The work pace allows you to get ahead on projects, with occasional downtime used for other meaningful tasks, and you benefit from a consistent first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. that supports work-life balance.

You will work in a large but quiet shop environment focused on industrial electrical and panel-building activities. The current electrician team is small, with two team members and one nearing retirement, offering opportunities for significant impact and responsibility. The setting emphasizes safety, organization, and collaboration, with standard use of hand tools, electrical test equipment, and manufacturing machinery. Work is performed on a first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing predictable daytime hours in a stable shop environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $62400.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
