Position Summary

The UV Coater Operator Helper supports the safe and efficient operation of a continuous web UV cationic silicone coating line used to manufacture silicone coated paper, film, release liners, and other flexible materials. This position will be first shift from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. 

Working under the direction of the UV Coater Operator and GAL Production Manager, this position assists with material preparation, machine setup, web threading, splicing, roll changes, sampling, chemical weighing, packaging, cleaning, and production documentation. The Helper also supports the upkeep of the UV coating area and assists with routine UV lamp system cleaning and component replacement after completing the required training.

This is a hands on manufacturing position that requires forklift operation, material handling, attention to detail, dependable attendance, and the ability to work safely around production chemicals, moving machinery, and ultraviolet curing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the UV Coater Operator with machine setup, operation, monitoring, cleaning, and product changeovers.
• Prepare rolls, cores, chemicals, packaging materials, labels, and other supplies according to work orders and production schedules.
• Safely load, unload, position, and move rolls and materials using a forklift, pallet jack, hoist, or other approved equipment.
• Assist with web threading, roll changes, splicing, web alignment, tension control, and removal of completed rolls.
• Cut raw material and coated product samples for laboratory testing, product retention, and quality review.
• Cut cores to required specifications and prepare shafts, chucks, and machine components for upcoming orders.
• Create and apply labels according to work orders, customer requirements, and internal traceability procedures.
• Assist with weighing approved chemical batches before and after each job while following established chemical handling procedures.
• Weigh completed rolls and accurately record production results, material usage, waste, and other required job information.
• Inspect materials and finished rolls for damage, contamination, defects, incorrect labeling, or packaging concerns and report issues promptly.
• Pack, wrap, band, label, and stage completed orders according to customer and shipping specifications.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and assist trained employees with scheduled cleaning and replacement of UV system components.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience is preferred.
• One to three years of experience in manufacturing, production, machine operation, coating, converting, printing, laminating, slitting, packaging, warehouse operations, or material handling is preferred.
• Previous hands on forklift operating experience is preferred.
• Ability to successfully complete company forklift training and certification requirements.
• Experience working with continuous web equipment, paper, film, rolls, release liners, coatings, adhesives, chemicals, or flexible materials is preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn machine setup, web threading, splicing, roll changes, changeovers, cleaning, and routine adjustments.
• Ability to safely use hand tools, measuring devices, pallet jacks, forklifts, hoists, and other production or material handling equipment.
• Ability to read measurements, complete basic math calculations, and accurately record weights, quantities, material usage, and production information.
• Ability to read and follow work orders, labels, specifications, safety instructions, chemical handling procedures, and standard operating procedures in English.
• Dependable attendance, strong attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and willingness to participate in UV coating training, cross training, and continued technical development..

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to operate controls and handle tools and materials, reach, bend, stoop, climb, and communicate effectively with team members.

The employee must be able to load and unload materials, position rolls and cores, assist with machine setup and changeovers, and work safely around moving production and UV curing equipment. The position requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and push, pull, or move materials weighing up to 100 pounds, with or without assistance.

The employee must be able to work for extended periods in a fast paced manufacturing environment that may include noise, heat, ultraviolet curing equipment, production chemicals, and moving machinery. The employee must follow all equipment safety procedures, UV shielding and interlock requirements, chemical handling procedures, and required personal protective equipment standards.
