PROFESSOR

DKI APCSS seeks qualified candidates at the level of Associate Professor or Professor specializing in Regional Security Architecture, Access, Basing, Overflight, and Force Posture to join the Department of Allies & Partners. The successful candidate will educate civilian and military security practitioners on the strategic, political, diplomatic, and operational foundations of collective security in the Indo-Pacific. The position focuses on how regional security architecture, alliances and partnerships, access agreements, basing, overflight, force posture, operational access, logistics, and sustainment contribute to credible deterrence, crisis response, collective defense, and sustained operations. A central purpose of the position is to deepen regional understanding of how access, basing, overflight, and force posture-enabled by trusted political, diplomatic, and security relationships-contribute to credible deterrence and collective security. The successful candidate will examine these issues from the perspectives of the United States, allies, and partners and help practitioners understand the national interests, political considerations, agreements, infrastructure, and relationships that enable effective regional access and posture. The successful candidate's academic rank and salary will be determined based on education, professional experience, scholarly record, teaching and facilitation experience, subject-matter expertise, leadership, and demonstrated capacity to contribute to the DKI APCSS mission. Faculty members at DKI APCSS are expected to be more than subject-matter experts. They serve as educators, facilitators, curriculum designers, action officers, researchers, mentors, and institutional leaders. Faculty plan and execute executive education courses, workshops, strategic dialogues, and regional engagements; develop and facilitate curriculum; conduct policy-relevant research; and build relationships with security professionals throughout the Indo-Pacific. Essential Criteria An advanced degree in international relations, security studies, political science, military studies, public policy, strategic studies, or a related discipline. A doctorate or other terminal degree is preferred. Demonstrated substantive knowledge, research, or professional experience relevant to regional security architecture, access, basing, overflight, force posture, alliances and partnerships, political-military affairs, or a closely related field. Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze contemporary security issues, and produce scholarly or policy-relevant work. Demonstrated experience teaching, facilitating, or educating adult learners from diverse professional, national, and cultural backgrounds. Ability to communicate complex political-military and security issues clearly to practitioner audiences. Strong organizational and project-management skills with demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and execute complex projects or programs. Ability to work effectively as a collegial, collaborative, and team-oriented faculty member. Ability to use contemporary technologies and digital tools in research, teaching, collaboration, and program execution. Demonstrated commitment to the DKI APCSS mission and to advancing security cooperation and understanding throughout the Indo-Pacific. Desired Criteria Demonstrated expertise, research, or professional experience in one or more of the following areas: Indo-Pacific regional security architecture Access, basing, and overflight U.S., allied, and partner force posture Alliance and partnership management Security cooperation and defense diplomacy Political-military affairs Operational access and contested logistics Strategic mobility and sustainment Coalition integration and interoperability Deterrence and collective defense Theater campaigning Maritime security First and Second Island Chain security dynamics Pacific Islands and Oceania security Southeast Asian security Additional desired experience includes: Experience working with or studying ministries of defense, ministries of foreign affairs, combatant commands, military organizations, international organizations, policy institutions, or allied and partner governments. Experience addressing the political, diplomatic, or operational dimensions of regional access, force posture, security agreements, or collective defense. Experience in executive education, facilitation, strategic engagement, policy dialogue, exercises, or multinational workshops. Experience building professional networks and fostering collaboration among individuals from diverse national, institutional, and professional backgrounds. Foreign-language capability relevant to the Indo-Pacific. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).
