Job Description and Duties

This position includes operating radio and telephone equipment. Dispatching appropriate officers and resources to incidents. Answering incoming telephone calls from the public, allied agencies, officers and the media.

Special Requirements

This position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed designated on the Classification Specifications (link available in the minimum requirements section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests:

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review. Original diploma or official, sealed transcripts will be required prior to the start date. Applicants with foreign transcript(s)/degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript/degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.

The CHP utilizes their own Public Safety Dispatcher certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Public Safety Dispatcher classification to be eligible to take the examination. • Ability to maintain a good rapport with employees, peers, supervisors, allied agencies and the public. Reporting to work on time with a minimum of absences. Willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays. A positive attitude. Ability to take independent action. Confidentiality is essential in the position. This classification requires a net typing speed of 40 words per minute.
