Senior Technical Manager, Geologist/Hydrogeologist

This Opportunity WSP is seeking a Senior Technical Manager – Geologist/Hydrogeologist to join our Site Investigation & Remediation (SIR) team in Charlotte, North Carolina . This role is ideal for a senior professional with deep consulting experience who can own client relationships, lead complex projects, and drive business growth in the local market. The successful candidate will bring a strong track record in developing and executing complex site characterization and groundwater remediation programs, with an emphasis on hydrogeologic interpretation and risk‑based decision‐making. This role requires a professional who is equally strong in strategic project execution, client development, and team mentorship. Our Carolinas team offers a collaborative, close‑knit culture backed by the resources of a national platform. You will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, geologists, scientists, and data specialists to deliver high‑quality, defensible solutions across Industrial, Government, Energy, and Transportation sectors. This is a hybrid role based in Charlotte, with regular in‑office presence expected to support team collaboration and client engagement. Regional travel will be required. Your Impact Serve as a technical and strategic leader in geology/hydrogeology within the SIR practice Develop and grow client relationships in the Charlotte market, identifying and capturing new business opportunities Lead complex site investigations, including conceptual site model (CSM) development and refinement Provide senior‑level oversight of groundwater flow and contaminant transport analysis, fate and transport modeling, and remedial strategy development Direct and review subsurface characterization programs, including drilling, geophysics, aquifer testing, and high‑resolution site characterization (HRSC) techniques Lead and manage complex site investigation and remediation projects, ensuring performance on scope, schedule, and budget Drive proposal development, including scoping, pricing, and technical approach Mentor and develop staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and growth Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated, future‑ready solutions Provide strategic guidance to clients on regulatory strategy, site closure pathways, and risk management Ensure compliance with NCDEQ, SCDES, and USEPA Region 4 regulatory frameworks Support operational performance by contributing to sales, revenue, and delivery targets Uphold WSP’s standards for safety, ethics, and quality Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related Earth Science field 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including project delivery and business development Professional Geologist (PG) license (North Carolina preferred or ability to obtain) Demonstrated success leading client relationships and generating revenue in the local/regional market Extensive experience with soil and groundwater investigation and remediation, including contaminants such as petroleum hydrocarbons, metals, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, and/or PFAS Strong expertise in hydrogeologic characterization, aquifer testing, and groundwater data evaluation Experience developing conceptual site models and supporting regulatory closure strategies Experience with vapor intrusion and soil gas investigations Proven ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary projects and teams Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills Self‑directed, motivated professional with a track record of ownership and accountability Familiarity with Southeast regulatory frameworks, including NCDEQ and USEPA Region 4 Commitment to health and safety practices (OSHA/HAZWOPER) Ability to travel regionally as needed Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Hydrogeology or related field Experience with groundwater modeling (e.g., MODFLOW or equivalent tools) Experience with high‑resolution site characterization (HRSC) techniques Established network of local clients and industry contacts 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (current or ability to obtain) First Aid/CPR certification What Sets You Apart You are a self‑starter and business builder, not solely a project executor You take ownership of clients and outcomes, proactively driving success You bring deep hydrogeologic expertise paired with practical, solution‑oriented thinking You bring local market insight and credibility in the Charlotte/Southeast region You thrive in a role that blends technical leadership, client engagement, and team mentorship The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
