Registered Nurse - Emergency Room - Per Diem Shift: 6:45pm - 7:15am *The ideal candidate has recent ER experience in the last two years, and has been an ER RN for at a minimum of 1 year. Job Description: PATIENT POPULATION:
The patient population served can be all patients, including geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and newborn. This also includes services which affect facility staff, physicians, visitors, vendors and the general public. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager and Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse (R.N.) independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, Nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. The R.N. contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner. The R.N. is responsible for the assessment, treatment, and nursing care delivery appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups. Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. The R.N must have and maintain current BLS, ACLS and PALS, prior to hands on patient care and practicing independently. MICN certification is required within 2 years of starting employement/transfer or prior to being assigned as Charge RN or Resource RN. Must have and maintain Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification or obtain within one (1) year of assignment to department. Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

1 * Is responsible for the assessment, treatment and/or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.
2 * Utilizes holistic assessment skills, recognizing subtle, covert or abnormal signs and symptoms that include at least one of the following: involvement of patient/significant other, discharge needs, psychosocial needs, biophysical needs, environmental needs, teaching needs.
3 * Identifies nursing diagnosis and interdependent nursing problems and selects applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care. Recognizes issues/concerns that could impact development of mutual goals.
4 Ensures that the Care Plan is specific and unique to the individual patient utilizing Interdependent Nursing Standards and the discharge needs of complex/multi-system patients.
5 According to established clinical policy, procedure and standards, the R.N. safely performs nursing care including safe administration of medication, troubleshoots equipment and demonstrates skill in clinical problem solving.
6 Ensures that the nursing care provided is consistent with the established Nursing Plan of Care, the Medical Plan of Care and the ages of the patients served.
7 * The effectiveness of the Plan of Care is evaluated and communicated through exchange report; recommendations are made for future care and are consistent with current documentation.
8 * Communicates evaluation of, or changes in, patient status providing supportive data to the physician or health care team as appropriate.
9 * Demonstrates adherence to the Joint Commission "National Patient Safety Goals for Hospitals" as defined by Scope of Practice.
10 * Documentation reflects compliance with established Hospital policies and procedures.
11 * Demonstrates knowledge of role by adherence to NPSGs as it relates to area of practice.
12 Demonstrates an understanding of the use, actions and interactions of drugs used in combination for patients with multi-system problems.
13 * Completes required unit specific performance criteria checklist.
14 * Demonstrates proper Infection Prevention skills to include Standardized Protocols or procedures related to central lines and indwelling Foley catheters.
15 Reports quality or Risk Management issues through appropriate lines of authority, i.e. administrative or clinical.
16 Maintains current knowledge of health care trends that affect the clinical practice of Nursing on the unit.
17 Demonstrates standards of documentation as evidenced by individual chart review and no letters of education in file.
Upholds all aspects of the Nursing Practice Act as defined by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
Provides evidence of adherence to all nine (9) ANA Code of Ethics for the Nursing profession.
EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT POSITION SPECIFICS:
1 Once obtained, ACLS and PALS/ENPC/MICN certification will be maintained throughout employment.
2 Once obtained, all full time registered nurses will maintain throughout employment MICN certification.
3 Completes ESI triage course within six (6) months of hire date.
4 Attends CPI training within one (1) year of hire date and maintains as required by state law.
5 Demonstrates reverence for life, respect for inherent dignity and worth of each individual, and maintenance of patient privacy and confidentiality.
6 Utilizes ED R.N. Standardized procedures appropriate to patient complaint/presentation.
