Position Title Patient Financial Advisor - Home Infusion (Remote with viable onsite requirements) – Southlake Campus Position Summary The Patient Financial Advisor is responsible for providing financial assistance to patients and families throughout the health system. They assist patients and families to secure payer sources including insurance coverage, Medicaid, Medicare, and other available sources based on need. They follow the enterprise financial clearance and financial assistance policy and procedures and maintain productivity, quality and customer service requirements according to department policy and procedure. Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions Contact patients or families by phone or in person to explain sponsorship options, including health insurance, homeowner’s insurance, workman’s compensation, pre‑paid packages, grants, studies, COBRA, VA benefits, Crime Victim, auto insurance, Medicaid or Medicare. Comply with Medicare/Medicaid rules and regulations. Screen patients with financial needs and assist them in finding payment resolution for their accounts, including negotiating settlements, insurance, public assistance, payment arrangements, charity or bad debt. Update patient account and demographic information appropriately and review the account within one business day to ensure verification and pre‑certification are complete and accurate. Determine possible Medicaid or disability linkage for patients as needed, interpreting the patient’s H & P to determine disability. Negotiate settlements or make payment arrangements and, if necessary, screen for partial or full charity by completing the financial assessment application and obtaining all required documents. Recommend accounts for collections if the patient is uncooperative at any part of the screening process. Work daily WQS consisting of all unsecured accounts and take appropriate actions such as phone calls and written communication using correct codes and time frames. Assist walk‑in customers requesting assistance and answer customer service calls with questions. Process Care Management Team referrals for sponsorship. Document point of service collections in EPIC when applicable. Perform professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience High School Graduate or GED. Must type 45 WPM. 3 or more years of combined experience in financial advising, claims processing, collections, customer service, or revenue cycle positions (including admitting, patient accounting, prior authorizations, or pre‑registration). Preferred Education and Experience 1 or more years of experience in Epic. 1 or more years of experience in CPT‑4 and HCPCS coding. 1 or more years of experience in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge Requirements Ability to multitask, prioritize, and elevate. Good oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of insurance (commercial & government). Knowledge of pay‑or websites. Knowledge of transplant (BMT and/or solid). Working knowledge of CMS regulations.
