Will oversee the maintenance and repair of Irving ISD district vehicles and equipment, maintain an adequate inventory and distribution process of shop parts and supplies, monitor the allocation of Irving ISD district resources through the use of the transportation budget guidelines./ph3Qualifications/h3pMinimum Education/Certification:/pulliHigh School diploma or GED from an accredited institution./liliTexas School Bus Driver Certification/liliValid Texas Commercial Drivers License - Class A or B CDL with P and S endorsements or the ability to obtain within one year of hire/liliDiesel Mechanic Certification preferred or demonstrated proficiency/liliAutomotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred or demonstrated proficiency/liliAbility to pass annual DOT physical examination and random drug testing/liliTexas Association of School Bus Technician Masters Certification (TASBT) preferred/li/ulpSpecial Knowledge/Skills:/pulliMust be 21 years of age/liliMechanical aptitude/liliKnowledge of fuel, electrical, hydraulic, oil pressure, and lubrication systems/liliAbility to perform mechanical repairs with no supervision/liliComputer Skills Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook/liliSkill in prioritizing and delegating work orders/liliEffective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills/liliAbility to work cooperatively with people and manage personnel/liliStrong work ethic and excellent attendance record/liliAbility to work with diagnostic software/li/ulpMinimum Experience :/pulliFive [5] years of experience in automotive or related field/liliThree [3] years of experience as a repair shop foreman preferred/liliThree [3] to five [5] years of experience as a diesel mechanic preferred/liliOne [1]to three [3] years experience as a school bus mechanic preferred/li/ulh3Major Responsibilities and Job Duties/h3pSupervisory:/polliRecruit, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff./liliParticipate in interviewing, selecting, and assigning work to personnel./liliMake sound recommendations to the Director of Transportation or designee relative to personnel placement, transfer, retention, and dismissal/liliParticipate in training regularly for:/liliShop/Department Safety/liliCoordination organization of labor, materials, and equipment/liliOversee assignments of work orders with the Mechanics/liliStaff development/liliDiagnose and determine which repairs may be performed by Fleet Mechanics or which must be outsourced to selected vendors; advise the Director accordingly and follow directives for repairs./liliOversee ongoing training and certification requirements for Fleet Mechanics./liliInvestigate vehicle accidents; evaluate the damage, prepare reports, and estimate time, parts, and materials needed for repairs./liliCoordinate and manage an accurate computerized system for preventive and scheduled maintenance for all district-owned vehicles./liliEnsure availability of district funds before committing the district financially./liliComply with the competitive purchasing requirements of the district./liliAssist with purchase of District school buses, fleet vehicles equipment, as needed./liliAccording to the Transportation Purchasing Guidelines, request Requisition, locate, and acquire parts and materials as needed for vehicle repair./liliCoordinate / manage an accurate computerized software system for processing and issuing parts and supplies./liliResponsible for the cleanliness and condition of all district vehicles./liliCoordinate with other departments supervisors when necessary/li/olpMechanical:/polliResponsible for the safe operation, care, and inventory of school district vehicles, tools, and equipment at all times (on-call)./liliMaintain Auxiliary Services Fueling system, fuel inventory for Transportation Department, equipment inspections, and TCEQ data./li/olpGeneral:/polliSupport the educational goals of the district./liliContribute to the recommendation, implementation, or improvement of operations and policies within the fleet maintenance division of the transportation department./liliFollow all safety rules and safety procedures./liliDemonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible./liliAttend required staff development as assigned by Administration and Transportation Director./liliFollow all rules, regulations, and policies of the Irving ISD./liliPerform other functions assigned by the administration and director./li/olh3Supervisory Responsibilities:/h3pSupervise and evaluate transportation staff as directed by the Director of Transportation/pulliShop Foreman/liliTechnicians/liliDistrict practicum participants and student Interns/li/ulh3Working Conditions:/h3pMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
