Laboratory Technologist - PCC Suffolk Laboratory - Full Time, Days

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility is home to the Knapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility—as well as a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices. Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Technologist - PCC Suffolk Laboratory - Full Time, Days - PCC-Suffolk-Laboratory - Full-T. In this role, the successful candidate works under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory Department to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. The candidate analyzes and interprets test results, ensures accuracy, repeats tests as necessary (especially those yielding abnormal or atypical results), and notifies appropriate personnel of such results. The position schedule is 10 am – 6 pm with occasional weekend work. Job Responsibilities Performance Expectations: Technical Skills Applies a basic level of knowledge of methods and clinical relevance of tests performed in their area of responsibility. Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure. Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected. Performs basic troubleshooting procedures and seeks assistance when necessary. Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs. Works effectively in high‑pressure situations without losing composure or making mistakes when processing a high volume of work. Organizes work well so others can easily work with them and take over for them in their absence. Verifies and processes specimens in an organized and timely manner. Follows all procedures accurately. Performs all test procedures accurately. Performance Expectations: Quality Assurance Performs Quality Control according to laboratory protocol. Documents Quality Control. Documents corrective action when needed. Follows laboratory procedure when Q.C. fails. Applies knowledge of test interrelationships and assures results are accurate. Effectively utilizes the computer to process specimens, report results and access information. Communicates ideas and suggestions with a positive intent. Critical values are called to the designated contact person and recorded in the critical value book. Computer downtime procedures are followed when the computer is not operational. Demonstrates ability to utilize technical communication (procedure manual, etc.) in the performance of their duties. Analytical Skills Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems to determine the cause and find solutions. Follows a logical process to problem resolution. Performs manual differentials and recognizes abnormal blood cells. Uses all available resources to solve problems, including manuals and manufacturer's technical services. Displays knowledge of mathematical and statistical calculations to evaluate Quality Control and calculate patient results. Other Functions and Performance Expectations Maintains a consistent pattern of attendance. Reports to assigned area on time for scheduled shift. Adheres to hospital/department dress code; arrives to work appropriately dressed, well‑groomed and neat. Completes all hospital requirements at designated times (e.g., annual assessments, educational, MedNetTra). Conforms to policies regarding confidentiality of information. Follows call‑in procedure when sick, late or absent. Additional Position Specific Responsibilities: May be required to facilitate research lab needs when and if necessary. Able to flex shift based on infusion needs. Minimum Qualifications BS in Medical Technology which includes a clinical internship or BS in a related discipline with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience. NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligibility. Professional accreditation preferred. Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations. Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems. Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing. Effectively communicates detailed data and procedures. Works effectively in high‑pressure situations. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Performs supervisory responsibilities. The salary range for the role is $104,435.71 - $118,610.71 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
