About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Mother Baby Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NRP, STABLE Must-Have: Experience in a similar setting. Experience with magnesium drips. Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred. Description: This is a postpartum unit. There are 32 maternal beds and room for 32 babies for couplet care. The unit experiences about 350-400 births per month. The goal nurse-to-patient ratio is 3 couplets per nurse or 1:6. For magnesium patients, the ratio is 1:4. There might be a rare occasion to manage 4 couplets with a discharge or twins. BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications are required. Common diagnoses include postpartum and higher-risk maternal patients. Patients may include those on magnesium drips, well babies, and C-section patients. There are no GYN surgical patients beyond tubal ligations. Charge nurses do not take an assignment. CNAs and unit clerks are available on this unit. A discharge nurse assists with patient education during the day. Lactation consultants are part of the team. Obstetricians are available for emergencies. Anesthesia is in-house 24/7. Mothers may occasionally require oxygen. Newborns needing more than supplemental oxygen will be transferred to NICU. Charting is conducted using EPIC. Shifts are 12 hours, from 7 PM to 7 AM. Travelers may float to different facilities and will cover gaps in the schedule. Working weekends and holidays is expected. There is no call or standby requirement. Travelers may be the first to float and sit with patients as needed. Cancellation of shifts may occur up to 4 times per contract.
