SUMMARY:
Become fully proficient at maintaining safe and efficient operating conditions of all wastewater treatment equipment (plus auxiliary equipment), steam boiler/chilled water plant equipment, compressed air equipment, and monitor the distribution systems. Under indirect and intermittent supervision of a Supervisor and occasional work direction of other Plant Operators, operates and provides protection on all power plant equipment. Performs operating care and minor maintenance on power plant equipment. Trains other Plant Operators. Must be able to work independently and with a team to perform required repairs by means of proper troubleshooting and repair methods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Tasks):
I. Adjustment and logging of chemical changes, troubleshooting, and pump adjustments in a defined format. Handle corrosive chemicals and wear proper protective equipment. Monitoring of all chemical feed systems. Mixing and dilution of lab chemicals. Extensive jar testing for chemical feed rates.
2. Daily operation of the Atomic Analyzer for monitoring of metal limits. Sampling for process optimization: Assembly influent, effluent, and jar; EMF influent, effluent, and jar; testing of centrate and sludge from sludge mix tank. Knowledge of WWTP chemistry and the impact on our process - pH testing, jar testing using anionic, cationic, alum, caustic, ferric
chloride, defoamer, AA Standards, etc. Daily collection of sludge samples using Imhoff cones to set lamella pump rate.
3. Interact with City of Flint when compliance sampling is being perfo1med. Monitor oil shipments and oil storage tanks. Facilitate lab sampling for compliance. Have knowledge of our legal requirements and permit when discharging to municipality.
4. Carries out verbal or written operating orders and instructions of Plant Manager and other Plant Operator. Sta1ts stops and/or regulates plant equipment. Diagnoses, compensates and corrects various operating conditions on equipment through the use of automatic control systems or manual regulation.
5. During emergencies and unusual circumstances, may be required to assist in the operations of equipment such as steam generators (boilers), turbine pumps and fans, system steam regulating valves, electrical equipment, chillers, air compressors, pumps and their attendant auxiliaries to maintain loads, voltages, frequencies, pressures, temperatures and flows, etc., as required.
6. Directs the work of other Plant Operators in starting, stopping and regulating plant equipment, protective lock/tagging, switching, inspections, etc.
7, Reads and interprets operating orders, blueprints, and sketches, etc.
8. Inspects assigned plant equipment for efficiency and safety. Looks for defects in equipment, faulty operating, poor housekeeping, fire hazards, unsafe working conditions, etc., and takes corrective action as necessary. Troubleshoots assigned plant equipment. Recommends and assists in developing changes in operating procedures.
9. Accepts or rejects (as delegated by manager) new, rebuilt, or repaired equipment for service.
10. Keeps plant manager and other operators informed of the status of equipment and conditions and prepares repair requests as needed.
11. Plans, coordinates and performs or directs the Lock-out/Tagging-out operations on plant equipment.
12. Performs and/or directs others to perform the operating care and minor maintenance on power plant equipment such as, cleaning, lubricating, changing oil, brushes, packing valves, pumps, changing water glasses, filters, cleaning burner tips, replaces sections of threaded pipe, valves, fittings, etc.
13. Reads and records data from various plant instrumentation. Maintains files of operating and work orders, lubrication records, etc. Fills out necessary operating records, reports, change charts, etc.
14. Assists in developing and preparing PTU's: Trains Plant Operators as requested.
15. Uses computer terminal to process work request/work orders to obtain and enter information the performance of maintenance duties.
16. Assists other departments in the company or vendor representatives with the repair of plant and distribution equipment.
17. Performs mechanical maintenance in varying degrees to turbines, steam generators, boilers, auxiliaries, chillers, air compressors, pumps and mobile equipment.
18. Fills out written reports on inspections and repairs made to equipment and verbally reports on faulty or unsafe equipment to the Supervisor.
19. Erects protective barriers around work locations to protect the general public and other employees from possible injury. Protects people and equipment from falling sparks from burning metal and properly positions protective blankets during cutting, brazing, welding, etc. Uses welding helmet and protective goggles to prevent eye or face injury and protective gloves to prevent hand burns. Has the knowledge necessary to properly use radio communication with Operators and other HAMTRAMCK ENERGY SERVICES, LLC Employees.
20. Performs electrical maintenance to a variety of plant electrical and distribution equipment by rebuilding, installing, inspecting, adjusting, repairing, testing and/or modifying circuit breakers, relays (as they apply to plant auxiliaries, etc.), AC-DC generators, motors, Transmission and Distribution busses, power and control wiring, conduit, oil and gas ignition systems, exciters, main and auxiliary transformers, switchgear, disconnects, general lighting and communications systems, etc. Operates the bridge crane to make special lifts such as rolling out bearings for inspection etc.
21. Develops and builds special tools, jigs and fixtures as necessary for his trade.
22. Perform repair and maintenance work on control equipment associated with steam, compressed air, waste water and chilled water plant operation. Observe equipment operation to determine the nature of operating problems. Use appropriate test instruments to diagnose and locate the trouble and the reason for malfunction; make needed repairs. Replace, adjust and calibrate components to align control apparatus to required operating specifications.
23. General electrical repair and maintenance as needed including replacing fuses, light bulbs, motor controls, switches, etc.
24. Run conduit, repair lighting, troubleshoot all electrical systems and controls.
25. Overhauls, inspects, installs, repairs, tests and/or modifies hydraulic systems, bearings, valves, governors, wearblocks, gas and oil ignition systems, safety valves, fans, compressors, pumps, fluid coupling drives; breakers, belts and idlers. Internal combustion engines (gasoline and diesel fuel), torque converters, transmissions, fuel injectors, brakes, hydraulic systems, etc.
26. Performs pipe and valve repairs to plant and distribution systems by removing, cutting, fitting, installing, checking, laying out, bending and/or modifying pipe lines and tubing; carrying water, steam, air, natural gas, oil, hydrogen, nitrogen, chemicals, acids, sewage, lubricants, gasoline and diesel fuels. Occasionally applies refractory cement to boiler tubing.
27. Performs electric and acetylene welding, brazing, burning, silver soldering, etc., to rebuild, repair, modify and/or fabricate plant and distribution equipment - for example, builds up worn shafts, castings and throat rings; hard coats throat rings, pyrite doors, wearblocks and clinker grinders, etc.; repairs cracked castings, broken parts and structural work; patches housing and ducts; welds on structural work; makes up burner impellers, welds on high pressure and high temperature piping or tubing, aluminum, cast aluminum, white metal, stainless steel, various moly alloys, etc. must be ce1tified to perform 6G arc and oxy fuel welding.
28. Performs structural steel maintenance on plant equipment by inspecting, installing, repairing, removing, modifying, laying out, and fabricating iron and steel components such as, stacks, ducts, equipment housings, chutes, wear plates, hoppers, girders, beams, plates, column, hand rails, platforms, walkways, all types of scaffolding, etc. Performs burning and uncertified welding. Rigs equipment and material for unusual or heavy lifts, and scaffolding and work platforms for personnel safety, etc. Operates cranes and other lifting or hoisting equipment as required.
29. Troubleshoots plant equipment as called for by daily work orders, inspects protective lock-out/tag-out given him/her by operators. Reads, interprets and works from blueprints, drawings and diagrams, manuals, etc.
30. Uses hand tools and instruments such as hammers, chippers, chisels, impact and torque wrenches, hand grinders, pliers, screwdrivers, calipers, feeler depth and indicating gauges, micrometers, test lamps, ammeters, valve grinding tools, etc. Erects scaffolding as necessary and performs rigging to make lifts and moves for safe handling of plant equipment.
31. Operates machine tools such as lathe, shaper, drill press, grinder, radial drill, surface grinder, air motor, arbor press, skill saw, etc., to fabricate new or repair old parts.
32. Fills out written reports on inspections and repairs made to plant and distribution equipment and verbally reports on faulty or unsafe equipment to the manager.
33. Operates: mobile equipment under working conditions to check and to facilitate repairs; plant cranes and lift trucks to move materials or equipment.
34. Perform the installation, removal and repair of insulation, masonry and refractories on plant and distribution equipment and structures.
35. Make sure that equipment, tools, work areas and shops are maintained in a clean and
• orderly condition; keep Company prope1ties clean and neat
36. Must know, practice and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work being performed. Furthermore, must write Safe Job Procedures when requested
37. Inspect Company vehicles prior to operation to maintain safe operation and avoid trouble and delays during scheduled work
38. Must be able to repair and maintain company-owned equipment located in customer buildings, as well as customer-owned steam equipment under billable service work. Must be able to perform and document trap surveys. Must be able to read meters accurately and in a timely fashion.
39. Quickly respond to emergency call-outs.
