Department: Nuclear Medicine - SRMC FTE: 1.00 Full Time Shift: Rotating Position Summary Perform multidisciplinary tasks using evolving radiologic instrumentation, radiopharmaceuticals techniques and procedures. Provide patient centered care with empathetic and instructional patient care and monitoring. Apply detailed attention to procedural accuracy, dosage, calibration, and administration of patient services. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Responsibilities Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner Use proper procedures to ensure quality results from imaging equipment, radiation detection equipment, detection and counting devices Complete department and hospital records for billing and procedure monitoring; participate in quality assurance programs; maintain daily radiopharmaceutical records and patient log book; complete regular monitoring survey Perform or assist with preventive maintenance, quality assurance, and minor equipment repair; calibrate cameras, dose calibrators; measure radionuclides Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right' Use published procedures, techniques and radiopharmaceutical administration guidelines to produce images and lab results Prepare radiopharmaceuticals for injection, ingestion, and inhalation; measure radioactivity dosage, maintain records; maintain safe procedures for handling, administration, storage and disposal of materials Verify patient identification, pregnancy status, breast-feeding status, and order for procedure; maintain proper patient communication throughout procedure Maintain compliance with regulations and procedures for radioactive contamination monitoring and decontamination, disposal of radioactive waste; provide instruction on radiation hazards and principles of radiation safety Operate gamma cameras with sealed sources of radioactive material for transmission imaging with single photon emission tomography or positron emission tomography and transmission imaging when performed as part of SPECT/CT or PET/CT Under the supervision or direction of a Radiologist, safely and properly retrieve, handle, store, and waste select medications for use during the setup, performance, and cleanup of radiology procedures Qualifications Education Essential: Program Graduate Education specialization: Commision on Allied Health (AMA) Nuclear Med Experience Essential: No minimum experience required Nonessential: Bilingual English/Spanish Credentials CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days Nuclear Medicine Technician Certification by ARRT or NMTCB Nuclear Medicine Tech or Fusion Imaging License State of NM ARRT Cert (ARRT-R) and/or (CT) and/or (NMTCB)(CT) Physical Conditions Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
