MBP is looking for a Transportation Construction Inspector to support transportation projects by providing construction inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring. Candidates should bring transportation-focused experience (VDOT or other DOT) and a track record inspecting roadway, bridge, and related improvements. What You’ll Do Serve as a field-based inspector supporting transportation construction by monitoring conformance with plans, contracts, specifications, and applicable codes. Oversee project documentation practices and exercise judgment in coordinating activities to promote safety and compliance within standard industry practice. Responsibilities include: Provide on‑site compliance inspection, quality assurance, and progress monitoring for assigned transportation construction operations; communicate with and advise contractors of discrepancies and coordinate necessary actions to meet plans and specifications. Maintain project records, including daily diaries documenting contractor work, trigonometric calculations, and associated sketches. Check materials and material documents to verify required tests; coordinate delivery of samples to the client or testing laboratories for verification. Assist with review of payment applications, final inspections, and creation of punchlists. Communicate effectively and professionally with the client, contractor, traveling public, adjacent property owners, other project stakeholders, and MBP team members. Verify that highway work zones and traffic control are in compliance with current standards. Perform work of basic to moderate difficulty, including materials testing and basic surveying. Complete administrative duties including a daily timesheet, monthly expense report, and monthly mileage report. Work on project sites with the ability to stand and sit as needed, climb ladders, work at heights, work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, and safely navigate uneven terrain. Who We Are Looking For Experience Construction work experience with a basic understanding of construction means and methods for transportation projects with a focus on VDOT or other DOT experience. Valid driver's license with a good driving record; ability to pass a fingerprint‑based criminal background check, DMV driving record check, reference verification, and work history check. Construction‑related training and/or experience or coursework in road/bridge construction, civil engineering, materials, and tools utilized in transportation projects. Education/Knowledge High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Basic mathematics including algebraic, geometric, and trigonometric computations based on field measurements. VDOT certifications preferred: Intermediate Work Zone Protection, Asphalt Field Level I and II, Soils and Aggregate, Pavement Marking, Nuclear Gauge Safety, Guard Rail Inspector Training, ACI Concrete, and DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management. Other relevant certifications include WACEL, ICC, NICET, or MARTCP. Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office applications, email, internet navigation, and web‑based tools. Field readiness including standing or sitting as needed, climbing ladders, working at heights, working outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions, and safely navigating uneven terrain. Guidance/Responsibility Works independently in the field within assigned operations while receiving overall project guidance.
