Physician Hospitalist - Competitive Salary

Job Description Medical Director opening in Elmira, NY We are a leading hospital in the Elmira area, committed to delivering excellent inpatient care in a collegial, community-oriented setting. Our hospitalist service plays a key role in coordinating inpatient care, improving throughput and outcomes, and collaborating closely with hospital departments, leadership, and frontline staff.The Medical Director of the Hospitalist Service provides leadership for the inpatient hospitalist program, combining active clinical practice with administrative responsibilities. This role is ideal for a physician passionate about inpatient medicine, quality improvement, provider mentorship, and operational excellence. Position Details Oversee hospitalist service operations including staffing models, coverage, scheduling, and service-line metrics (census, productivity, quality, length of stay, readmissions) Budget oversight and operational efficiency management Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols, best practices, and quality improvement initiatives Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and hospital policy standards (e.g., The Joint Commission) Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and strategic planning initiatives Report performance metrics and identify improvement opportunities Promote physician engagement, teamwork, and a culture of continuous improvement Maintain an active inpatient clinical practice as a hospitalist Clinical schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or mid-shift 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM Average census: 20–25 patients per day Closed ICU No procedures required Step-down unit coverage Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited institution Board Certified in Internal Medicine with hospitalist experience Eligible for or holding an unrestricted New York State medical license Significant inpatient hospitalist experience Prior leadership or administrative experience preferred Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills Collaborative leadership style with mentoring/coaching experience preferred Experience with EPIC EMR Benefits Details $300,000–$320,000, commensurate with experience Leadership/administrative stipend or performance-based bonus Comprehensive benefits package including: - Health, dental, and vision insurance - Malpractice coverage - CME allowance - Retirement plan Relocation assistance Opportunity to live and work in an affordable region with four-season recreation Lead a high-impact hospitalist service within a respected healthcare organization Shape the strategic direction of inpatient care Collaborate with engaged hospital leadership and clinical teams Enjoy an excellent quality of life in the Finger Lakes / Twin Tiers region, offering lakes, hiking, low traffic, and a welcoming communityaa415a4b-8b21-40fc-a65c-70d2b25ca29a
