Field Director, Medical Science Liaisons - West Region US - Obesity and Related Conditions

Field Director, Medical Science Liaisons – West Region US – Obesity and Related Conditions The Field Director (FD) of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) plays a key role in developing medical strategy and guiding their regional MSL team in executing field tactics. The primary responsibility of the FD is the management, performance, and coaching of a region of MSL direct reports, ensuring compliant execution of field medical plans, strategy, and activities within US Medical Affairs so that the team advances clinical practice and improves patient outcomes. Accountabilities and Responsibilities Leadership and Team Management Provide strategic direction and oversight to the MSL team, ensuring alignment with Amgen’s corporate goals and objectives. Coach and develop MSLs, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Promote a positive, collaborative work environment that encourages retention and engagement. Identify ongoing training needs and collaborate with training partners to develop plans and timelines. Ensure compliance with all standards and completion of administrative responsibilities (CRM, expense reports, training modules, etc.). Lead effectively through change and accelerate MSL progression through the change cycle. Strategic Execution Partner with medical leadership to develop Field Medical strategy, tactics, and Scientific Engagement Plans (SEPs). Elevate field medical insights that may refine strategy and tactics. Identify tools and resources needed to support SEPs and champion their development with medical Leadership Team. Oversee peer‑to‑peer scientific engagement activities with Opinion Leaders (OLs), community healthcare providers, and Population Health Decision Makers (PHDMs). Develop strategies for engagement and execution at key accounts. Guide the MSL team in educating and communicating clinical value, outcomes, and economic data. Provide ongoing support so the team meets goals and remains focused on impactful strategies. Ensure the MSL team comprehends the healthcare ecosystem and Amgen’s business landscape, guiding them to innovate and adapt. Cross‑functional Collaboration Represent the MSL team in interactions with senior leadership, articulating the impact of the Field Medical team. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to align field observations and insights with Amgen strategies. Support congress activities and ensure alignment with overall strategy. Participate in and lead project teams that support Field Medical strategies and tactics. Model and ensure excellence in cross‑functional collaboration between field medical and field commercial for a coordinated “One Amgen” experience. What We Expect of You Basic Qualifications Doctorate degree & 4 years of Medical Affairs experience, OR Master’s degree & 8 years of Medical Affairs experience, OR Bachelor’s degree & 10 years of Medical Affairs experience. 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience directing teams, projects, programs or resource allocation. Preferred Qualifications Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.D., or D.O. (other doctoral degrees considered). Seven years of industry experience in Scientific/Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company. Seven or more years focused on clinical practice, clinical research, or medical research. 3+ years in a medical science liaison role at a biotech or pharmaceutical company. Current experience in Scientific Affairs or Medical Affairs at a biotech or pharmaceutical company. Three years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leading teams, projects, programs or resource allocation. Obesity and Related Conditions expertise. Salary Range The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is $223,527.05 – $302,418.95. Actual salary varies based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
