Job Title: Traveling MIG Welder

Job Description

Join a high-volume trailer manufacturing operation as a Traveling MIG Welder, working on mild steel components used in modern transportation equipment. In this role, you perform MIG welding in multiple positions, support light fabrication tasks, and work directly from blueprints while traveling on long-term assignments. With structured welder levels, you have clear opportunities for advancement and the potential to move into robotic welding as the facility continues to automate and upgrade equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on mild steel components using established procedures and safety standards.
• Weld in vertical, flat, vertical lap, and overhead positions with consistent quality and adherence to specifications.
• Read and interpret blueprints to understand weld symbols, dimensions, and assembly requirements.
• Carry out small fabrication duties such as cutting, bending, and assembling parts as needed for production.
• Follow all safety protocols, including the use of required personal protective equipment such as respirators, ear protection, and welding gear.
• Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in clean and safe operating condition.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and quality standards.
• Adapt to different shifts and extended hours to support a 50-hour workweek when required.
• Comply with pre-employment clinic requirements, including medical evaluations and fit testing for respirator use.
• Progress through defined welder levels by demonstrating skill growth, reliability, and adherence to quality expectations.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• At least 1 year of MIG welding experience on mild steel.
• Ability to weld in vertical, flat, vertical lap, and overhead positions with consistent quality.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience reading and working from blueprints.
• Proficiency in basic fabrication tasks, including cutting, bending, and assembly of metal components.
• Ability to use and maintain welding equipment and related tools safely and effectively.
• Capability and willingness to wear a respirator while welding and comply with respiratory protection requirements.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment clinic exam, including spirometry and respirator fit testing.
• Willingness to remain clean shaven to ensure proper respirator fit.
• Strong awareness of safety practices in a large industrial manufacturing environment.
• Reliability to work extended hours and multiple shifts as needed for production demands.

Shifts Available

• 5:30am - approx. 4:00pm, Monday - Thursday
• 4:00pm - approx. 3:00am, Monday - Thursday
• 5:00am - 5:00pm, Friday/Saturday/Sunday
• 5:00pm - 5:00am, Friday/Saturday/Sunday

Per Diem Information

• $140/day per diem, 7 days

Work Environment

• The role is based in a very large manufacturing facility that is not climate controlled, with heating provided during the winter months.
• There is regular opportunity to work around 50 hours per week by combining 10- or 12-hour shifts with additional days.
• Ear plugs are required in the production area, and a respirator must be worn while welding.
• The dress code includes jeans, a work-appropriate t-shirt, and steel toe or composite safety shoes.
• Welders use a weld helmet and gloves, and are assigned 3M half-facepiece respirator masks, which must be worn in accordance with safety policies and fit-test requirements.

This is a Contract position based out of Madison, WI.

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Madison,WI.
