Since 2002, Family Law CASA has advocated for children in complex family law litigation through Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). Our work supports 160-180 kids per year from families navigating economic injustice in King County advancing access to justice for children and families, reducing trauma and promoting stability. THE ROLE

Family Law CASA is seeking a professional with experience in family law and/or child advocacy who will train, guide, and support volunteers as they gather information about children’s safety and well-being within a dynamic legal framework. Advocate Supervisors are responsible for managing a caseload with multiple deadlines; assessing and prioritizing case issues; reviewing and editing court reports; supporting volunteer recruitment efforts, fundraising, and program operations; and fostering a positive work environment.

We are looking for a motivated self-starter with excellent attention to detail, who can work effectively in a fast-paced environment and wants to support us in fulfilling our mission. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), non-exempt, salaried position that reports to our Program Manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer CASA Management (25 Cases)

• Follow Program Manager’s direction in reviewing and assigning new cases to volunteer CASAs in a timely manner.
• Create plan with volunteer CASAs for information gathering, analysis, report writing and meeting deadlines.
• Communicate regularly with volunteer CASAs, provide guidance and support, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
• Record updates regarding volunteer and case information in Optima database in a timely manner.
• Monitor and assess pleadings, reports, orders and communications for safety concerns throughout the case and to ensure adherence to statutory guidelines and court proceedings in conjunction with Program Attorney.
• Monitor and assess the progress of volunteer CASAs consistent with the legal structure and timeline of the case and report any concerns, complaints, or problems to the Program Manager, Program Attorney or Executive Director as needed.
• Run and/or update background checks for the parties and any and/or all adults living in their respective homes.
• Receive, review and edit volunteer CASA draft court reports for responsiveness to the Order of Appointment and case type, as well as grammar and format, and collaborate with the CASA to create a strong, clear, and unbiased analysis of safety issues. Follow Program Attorney guidance and following up with the volunteer CASAs as needed for clarification or corrections.

Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Retention

• Interview potential volunteer CASAs and assess suitability.
• Teach segments of the quarterly required new advocate training according to interests and strengths.
• Send thank-you cards to volunteer CASAs upon case closure.
• Conduct wrap-up and review of the case and the debrief with the volunteer CASA upon case closure.

Team Collaboration

• Attend weekly check-ins with Program Manager.
• Attend weekly staff meetings, regular Program team meetings, and advocate supervisor meetings.
• Periodically attend and/or lead mini-trainings.
• Support Family Law CASA’s events and fundraisers.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum two years of work experience with families and children facing economic injustice and/or managing volunteers, or a related field.
• Familiarity with legal system, domestic violence, substance use and/or mental health issues preferred.
• Strong needs assessment, multiple deadline management and writing/editing skills required.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to approach relations with volunteers, family and staff with empathy, kindness and professionalism.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and organize responsibilities to effectively address multiple, simultaneous projects and manage deadlines.
• Good work habits, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, administrative and organizational skills.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity in working with diverse communities, especially an understanding of the intersectionality of systemic oppression.
• Demonstrated intermediate to advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office experience required).
• Commitment to Family Law CASA’s vision, mission and values.

EDUCATION

• An undergraduate degree, or any combination of education and experience, will qualify a candidate for this position. Education acquired outside of the United States is welcome.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY

• Ability to read, write and speak English with primary fluency is required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting salary range is $74,000-76,000 (full salary range is $74,000-104,234). ACCESSIBILITY

Our office is accessible via elevator with wide hallways to reach our suite. Individual workspace for the Advocate Supervisor is available with space for a variety of mobility aids. Tour of physical office space can be included in the interview process by request.

LOCATION

Our offices are in Tukwila, WA near Southcenter Mall. It is about a 10-minute walk from the bus lines on Andover Park W, or the Tukwila Sounder train stop to our building with traffic lights and crosswalks at each intersection. We will be relocating in December to Southcenter Place, corner of Strander Blvd and Southcenter Blvd.

This position is a hybrid role with one mandatory day in the office; during on-boarding for first three months two-days mandatory.
