Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster – Arizona
The Workers' Compensation Claims Adjuster works within a Claims Team under direct supervision and develops the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct thorough investigations, determine compensability, evaluate losses, negotiate settlements, and manage a caseload of workers' compensation claims. This role includes participation in a structured training program, one-on-one mentoring, and hands-on experience. The Adjuster also supports service delivery for mid-sized and/or large commercial accounts.

Responsibilities
- Investigate new workers' compensation claims by reviewing First Reports of Injury and supporting documentation; identify and initiate appropriate contact with injured workers, employers, medical providers, and witnesses to gather necessary information.
- Develop and implement action plans based on claim facts, jurisdictional requirements, best practices, and internal protocols.
- Manage a caseload of Arizona workers' compensation claims, including evaluating compensability, determining liability, and assessing exposure.
- Establish and maintain accurate reserves in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and monitor medical treatment, return-to-work efforts, and overall claim progression.
- Negotiate settlements within designated authority limits and in compliance with Arizona statutes and regulations.
- Determine coverage and communicate decisions clearly to policyholders, claimants, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain timely and accurate claim documentation, including file notes, plans of action, and status updates.
- Collaborate with legal counsel, nurse case managers, and other internal/external partners as needed.
- Ensure all claims handling activities comply with Arizona workers' compensation laws and company standards.
- Proactively manage claims to control costs, mitigate risk, and drive timely resolution.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with varying levels of stakeholders.
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Demonstrated success in a professional or customer-facing environment (insurance or claims experience preferred).
- Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret information to make sound decisions.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Knowledge of workers' compensation laws, insurance coverage, and medical terminology is a plus.
- Arizona workers' compensation adjuster license (or ability to obtain) preferred or required depending on employer guidelines.
