Charge RN (Med-Surg) - Loan Forgiveness - Full Time, Nights

Position Summary: The Charge Nurse oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, the quality of nursing practice, and the standards of care for the assigned shift. Directs patient care activities by assigning staff and functions based on the Charge RN’s assessment of patient needs and the relative skills and abilities of staff, while maintaining clinical nursing practice skills and unit‑specific expertise. Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate psychomotor and age‑appropriate cognitive skills to assess, plan, intervene, and advocate for the patient and family throughout the continuum of care. Ensures break relief coverage and troubleshoots issues as they arise. Functions as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients. Supervises and directs staff RNs, LVNs, and CNAs, providing meaningful input for employee counseling, evaluation, scheduling, and discipline. Responsibilities Leadership: Oversees and coordinates daily unit operations, resolves issues, and demonstrates advanced clinical expertise and strong leadership. Assigns staff based on competencies, ensures acuities, provides RN coaching, training, counseling, and performance assessments, and assists with hiring decisions. Professional Clinical Practice: Supervises staff during patient care, provides direct care when needed, ensures safe medication and treatment administration, and responds to changes in patient condition. Maintains hospital patient care standards, collaborates with the health‑care team, intervenes in abuse or neglect situations, and makes referrals as required. Plan of Care: Develops long‑ and short‑term goals with physicians, incorporates patient preferences, manages pain resources, and guides staff in assessment and documentation. Reviews test results, communicates critical findings, and ensures evidence‑based nursing practice within scope and hospital standards. Collaboration: Coordinates care with staff, physicians, and other disciplines, delegates activities, provides leadership, and ensures safe, high‑quality care. Acts as an information source and provides education on treatment plans, medications, and discharge planning. Communication: Empathizes and demonstrates compassionate care, engages in caring behaviors, and supports staff in patient interactions across diverse backgrounds. Qualifications Active, current, and unencumbered RN licensure in California. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. AHA Basic Life‑Saving skills. English proficiency (reading, writing, communicating). Flexibility and composure in a constantly changing environment. Understanding of patient classification and staffing requirements. Demonstrated leadership experience. Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only). One year nursing experience. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing; prior Charge Nurse experience in an acute‑care setting; bilingual skills; recent acute‑care RN experience; specialty area certification. Pay & Benefits Pay Rate: $48.70 – $68.80 per hour. Sign‑On Bonus: $20,000 (one or more years of acute‑care RN experience required; current Alta Hospital employees and former Alta Hospital employees may not be eligible).
