Description:
Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique.
Maintains asepsis and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
Actively participates in patient care and safety.
Utilizes operating room supplies conservatively and operates as a team member.
Follows infection control policies and procedures.
Demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.
Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.
Assists the surgeon by gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments.
Anticipates the surgeon's need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.
Maintains an organized operative field by keeping instruments clean and in their proper place.
Keeps an accurate count of sponges, tapes, needles, dissectors, and instruments.
Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment according to preference cards.
Identifies any conflicts or problems with supplies or equipment.
Cares for instruments and supplies appropriately after each case.
Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards.
Displays knowledge of potential hazards within the operating room.
Utilizes experienced staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new personnel.
Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon.
Handles and identifies specimens per policy.
Expedites the effective and efficient turnover of the operating room between cases.
Participates in rotating call duty.
May perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Weekend call begins Friday night and continues through Sunday night.
