The primary purpose of this position is to to lead three or more workers to accomplish trades and/or labor work on a substantially full time and continuing basis. Leader is responsible to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensures that subordinates completed assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards

Duties

Help

- Leads a team of trades and/or labor workers. On a regular and recurring basis, utilizes trades and/or labor knowledge and skill to lead a team of three or more workers in performance of various related work.

- Performs work. Performs nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led.

- Installs, repairs or replaces, modifies, loads and test new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, panels, switches, breakers, and controls located in and near installation buildings and structures.

- Uses and maintains various types of hand and/or power tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, soldering irons, cable pullers, hydraulic benders, and pipe threading machines.

• The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position
• This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
• Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
• May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and/or Shift work may be required which may include overtime and/or irregular hours
• May work with hazardous materials such as asbestos or accumulated waste. Employee will be required to wear protective clothing and gear on these occasions
• Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth
• Direct Deposit: All federal employees are required to have direct deposit.
• This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-2800, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Group, Electrician, 2805 series. . Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out element for this position is ability to lead or supervise.

JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Working knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s).

2. Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and equipment common to trades and labor work performed by the group being led.

4. Skill in performing the trade and /or labor work of the group being led.

5. Ability to lead a team of three or more labor or trade employees.

6. Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.

Physical Effort: Makes repairs from work stands and other hard-to-reach places. Must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, stretch, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts items that weigh over 40 pounds with assistance from other workers.

Working Conditions: Works inside and outside, sometimes in bad weather and in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy. May work on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 or more feet, or in close quarters such as manholes or attics. Subject to electric shock, cuts and bruises. May be exposed to temperature extremes in test facilities, extremely high noise levels and exposure to lead, radiation, chemicals, or carcinogens.???????

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
