We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Emergency Department Director to lead our Emergency Services team and support the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nursing leader who is passionate about emergency medicine, staff development, quality improvement, and creating a positive patient and employee experience.Position SummaryThe Emergency Department Director provides overall leadership, direction, and operational oversight for the Emergency Department. This position is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care, effective staffing, regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and the development of a strong, collaborative clinical team.The Director works closely with physicians, nursing leadership, hospital administration, and other departments to ensure efficient patient flow and excellent clinical outcomes.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and day-to-day operational oversight of the Emergency Department.Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental goals, policies, procedures, and performance standards.Ensure the delivery of safe, efficient, high-quality, and patient-centered emergency care.Develop and maintain appropriate staffing plans based on patient volume, acuity, and operational needs.Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, coach, and evaluate department staff.Provide ongoing leadership, mentoring, education, and professional development opportunities for employees.Promote employee engagement, accountability, teamwork, and retention.Monitor patient flow, wait times, length of stay, throughput, and other key Emergency Department metrics.Identify operational challenges and implement strategies to improve efficiency and patient outcomes.Collaborate with Emergency Department physicians and other medical staff to promote effective patient care.Monitor compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.Maintain readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys, including Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory agencies.Monitor quality indicators and participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.Investigate patient complaints, safety events, and other concerns and implement appropriate corrective actions.Assist with departmental budgeting, expense management, and resource utilization.Monitor supplies, equipment, and inventory to ensure appropriate resources are available.Develop and maintain productive relationships with hospital departments and support services.Participate in hospital committees, leadership meetings, and organizational initiatives as assigned.Support emergency preparedness and disaster response activities.Promote evidence-based nursing practices and continuous improvement.Maintain a professional and respectful work environment.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsCurrent Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois required.Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in an Emergency Department setting.Previous Emergency Department nursing experience required.Current BLS certification required.ACLS certification required.PALS certification required.TNCC certification preferred.Strong knowledge of emergency nursing, patient flow, staffing, quality improvement, and regulatory requirements.Demonstrated experience with employee coaching, performance management, and staff development.Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.Why Join Gateway Regional Medical Center?Competitive leadership compensationMedical, dental, and vision insurance View Guide401(k) retirement plan with employer matchPaid time offMental health/sick timeIllinois Paid LeaveFloating holiday after completion of the 90-day probationary periodLeadership and professional development opportunitiesCollaborative healthcare environmentOpportunity to make a meaningful impact in the communityGateway Regional Medical Center is an equal opportunity employer.
