Engineering Technologist

Role summary / purpose

This classification represents the third level of a degreed technical role for non-engineering personnel. The Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to resolve complex issues and applies leadership capabilities to oversee and direct work within a defined area of expertise, with limited supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering support for major projects within the Triad Zone, including distribution system upgrades from the substation to the customer
• Coordinate with engineering firms, customers, contractors, and management
• Participate in field visits and customer meetings
• Utilize Maximo and BOUD systems
• Support storm response efforts locally or in other designated locations as required
• Provide technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise
• Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
• Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches
• Conduct engineering and related studies
• Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities
• Maintain accurate records and files

Requirements - education & experience

• Minimum of two years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology, or a minimum of six years of equivalent experience without a degree
• Direct experience in electric distribution

• Leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work
• Ability to work with greater independence

• Understanding of basic principles of project management
