Description: Unit consists of 47 beds. Certifications required include BLS and ACLS. Patient ratios are 1:4 for telemetry patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients. Electronic Medical Record system used is Cerner. Charge nurse position is available, without patient assignment. There may be one Resource RN if not in patient count. Nurse aides are present with a ratio of 1:12 during days and 1:14 during nights. There is a weekend requirement of every other weekend. Holidays are rotated among core staff. Scrub color for RNs is navy blue, while aides wear hunter green. Telemetry monitoring is available. Nurses will read strips. Common drips include Heparin and blood. Ventilator usage is not common; however, BiPAP and CPAP may be utilized at night. Clientist or intensivist is in-house. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are also available 24/7. Shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700. Floating may occur to MedSurg and Tele departments, as well as rehab, within the required skill set. Floors specific orientation lasts for one shift with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include all post-op surgical patients not requiring a higher level of care, as well as bariatric, orthopedic, spine, and general telemetry patients. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using the Cerner system.
