Critical Facilities Technician

Overview Critical Facilities Operating Engineer (3rd Shift – Tuesday/Saturday 10:30pm-6:30am). The Data Center Critical Facilities Engineer will assist the Chief Engineer and Lead Engineer with all aspects of critical facility operations, including technical and administrative support, planning electrical and mechanical preventive maintenance, and supervising and directing maintenance personnel in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical equipment and systems. Responsibilities Perform rounds, conduct tests, and analyze data to ensure the proper functioning of data center equipment. Monitor operation of mechanical/electrical operating systems to maintain continuous availability and avoid unplanned outages. Perform preventive maintenance on data center critical system equipment and associated buildings. Oversee or participate in major repairs and maintenance of data center systems and equipment. Conduct routine and ongoing assessments of building operations. Monitor the operations of the data center environment and associated buildings, adjusting refrigeration, heat exchangers, HVAC, electrical, and emergency backup systems as needed. Adjust and maintain Central Plant, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment, ventilating and hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, and filters. Install, repair, and maintain critical data center electrical equipment and controls. Install, repair, and maintain plumbing, piping, and associated equipment and components. Install, repair, and maintain mechanical operating equipment and machinery. Review and perform rounds, analyze data to ensure proper functioning of data center equipment. Record and analyze readings, adjust as necessary to maintain support equipment operation. Analyze system operations, determine causes of problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action. Perform preventive maintenance on all data center critical system equipment and complete preventive task sheets and required documentation. Assign, manage, and verify work orders using CMMS (Corrigo) with accuracy and good documentation. Develop operating procedures (SOPs, MOPs, EOPs) and oversee implementation of critical scheduled activity according to documented procedures. Mentor data center operating engineers on electrical and mechanical systems, critical paths, and best practices. Install and repair plumbing/piping/tubing; wire single and three‑phase motors; pull wiring to machinery, motors, operating parts; install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors; heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace seals on pumps; install and repair piping, valves, filters, and associated controls. Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching, and motor controls. Comply with departmental policy for the safe storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain tools and order supplies as required to support equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements and Competencies High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of an apprentice program or two years of related trade schooling (or military experience) is desirable. Minimum of two years of experience in an electrical trade, HVAC/refrigeration, or a related field. Minimum of two years of experience in emergency backup systems (Generators, UPS, etc.). Proficient in using tools and machinery related to data center and building operations. Proficient with one‑line drawings (critical path), blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, and procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate well in both oral and written communications. Proficient with computer equipment and Microsoft Office software. Required to complete ongoing certification/training programs with passing scores. Internal candidates must have consistently received a “meets expectations” rating.
