Mechanical Engineer, Flexible Instruments

Intuitive Surgical

Intuitive Surgical seeks a Mechanical Engineer to develop advanced energy catheters and flexible electromechanical instruments for surgical robotics applications. The role involves mechanical and electrical design, prototyping, testing, and cross-functional collaboration within a small development team.

Responsibilities

Design and develop advanced energy catheters and flexible electromechanical instruments in cross-functional teams
Perform hands-on assembly, testing, and verification of prototypes and device concepts
Create design and manufacturing documentation including drawings, specifications, and test procedures
Investigate design or manufacturing failures and determine root causes with team support
Collaborate with clinical engineering and observe clinical cases to inform design decisions

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or related engineering (or Master's degree with 3+ years experience)
Minimum 5 years relevant mechanical engineering experience
Knowledge of FDA QSR 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971 standards
Proficiency in CAD design software, preferably SolidWorks
Experience with rapid prototyping methods including 3D printing and machining
Familiarity with flexible catheter design and material selection
Ability to work independently while escalating appropriately
