Allied Technician - Respiratory Therapist

Registered Respiratory Therapist

Responsible for providing pulmonary care to critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician, while working with minimal supervision. This role involves performing patient assessments, instituting respiratory care plans, and executing various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures across all hospital areas.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in applicable competencies, including emergency response.
• Perform airway management procedures, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning.
• Deliver aerosolized medications effectively.
• Manage ventilator setups and operations.
• Provide oral hygiene care and maintain airway retaining devices.
• Oversee and manage airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP.
• Administer oxygen delivery and monitor therapeutic responses.
• Analyze chest films and perform blood gas collection and analysis.
• Conduct EKG analysis and ensure accurate documentation.
• Clean and restock respiratory equipment and supplies as needed.
• Participate in CAP and JC surveys.
• May serve as a Shift Leader or Team Leader.

Advanced Practice Skills

• Manage therapeutic gases and monitoring, including INO and HeO2.
• Conduct Pulmonary Function Testing.
• Assist in bronchoscopy procedures.
• Monitor hemodynamics and perform waveform analysis.
• Evaluate nocturnal SpO2 and conduct desaturation studies.
• Engage in polysomnography tasks.
• Perform transport duties effectively.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

Candidates must meet licensure and certification requirements as outlined by relevant authorities.

Experience

1 - 3 years of experience in respiratory therapy is preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

• RT or RCP License in the state of Texas required.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification by NBRC required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA only).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required (AHA only).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required (AHA only).
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.

Work Schedule

This position operates on a schedule of 6:45 PM to 7:00 AM.
