Job Description
The Maintenance Technician supports a climate-controlled food production facility by performing mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and facilities maintenance on production and building equipment. This role focuses heavily on mechanical troubleshooting of smaller components, implementing preventative and predictive maintenance, and ensuring all work meets strict food safety and hygiene standards. The technician works closely with production and quality teams to maximize equipment uptime, improve safety, and maintain a clean, organized maintenance environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example by consistently demonstrating the organization’s mission and values and encouraging other maintenance technicians to model these behaviors in daily work.
- Perform building HVAC, plumbing, electrical, PLC, and mechanical repairs as needed to support continuous plant operations.
- Maintain and repair food production equipment, including conveyors, mixers, lifts, and roller grill machines with clutches and drive valves, focusing on smaller mechanical components.
- Utilize e-maintenance systems to manage equipment records, preventive maintenance processes, parts ordering, and predictive maintenance activities.
- Implement preventative and predictive maintenance measures and procedures to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of repair equipment, supplies, and tools to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
- Organize and maintain maintenance areas so they remain clean, orderly, and compliant with all food safety requirements.
- Complete regular inspections of facilities and equipment in coordination with the Maintenance Manager to identify and address issues proactively.
- Respond quickly to equipment and facility emergencies, notify appropriate personnel, and follow established safety protocols.
- Proactively contribute ideas for hygienic equipment design and process improvements to eliminate waste, increase equipment uptime, and enhance employee safety.
- Regularly clean and maintain tools in an organized, lean manner to support efficient and safe maintenance operations.
- Perform facilities maintenance as needed, including general building repairs and support for plant utilities.
- Carry out other maintenance duties and projects as requested by management.
- Work collaboratively with production and quality departments to coordinate equipment access, minimize disruption to operations, and ensure maintenance work meets quality and food safety standards.
- Sanitize work areas and equipment before and after maintenance tasks to maintain food-grade conditions and support quality assurance requirements.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, with a strong focus on small component repair and troubleshooting in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- HVAC experience, including basic maintenance and repair of building systems in a production facility.
- Electrical experience, including work with 240V systems and the ability to perform light electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repairing related components.
- Proficiency in preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance practices for production and building equipment.
- Troubleshooting skills for conveyors, mixers, lifts, and similar mechanical production equipment.
- Experience with maintenance repair in a facilities or plant environment, including general building maintenance.
- Capability to use and maintain e-maintenance or computerized maintenance systems for work orders, equipment history, and parts management.
- Comfort working with PLC-controlled equipment, even if PLC programming is not a primary focus.
- Ability to follow and apply strict food safety and hygiene requirements during all maintenance activities.
- Strong safety awareness and adherence to established safety protocols during emergency and routine maintenance work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Background in automotive maintenance or HVAC is highly beneficial and transferable to this role.
- Experience in food manufacturing or food-safe equipment maintenance is preferred due to the added hygiene and compliance requirements.
- Previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
- Experience as a plant technician or similar role in an industrial setting is advantageous, particularly with small component work.
- Familiarity with maintenance planning processes and working alongside maintenance planners and managers.
- Ability to work independently for portions of the shift while maintaining communication with leadership as needed.
- Strong organizational skills to keep tools, parts, and maintenance areas in an orderly, lean state.
- Attention to detail and consistency in sanitizing equipment and work areas before and after maintenance tasks.
- Comfort working within structured quality assurance processes, including inspections and documentation for food-grade standards.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
