Join us and design your place with Stantec.Your Opportunity We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC system design—including airside, hydronic, and steam systems—across a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary (A&E) projects. This role will support major market sectors such as Mission Critical, Healthcare, Utility Plants and Campus Distribution, Corporate/Commercial, and Laboratories. The ideal candidate is technically strong, client-focused, and capable of managing both engineering execution and project delivery.Your Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership & DesignLead HVAC design for complex building systems, overseeing airside, hydronic, and steam systems from concept through construction documentsPerform load calculations, system sizing, engineering analyses, and coordinate technical program requirementsConduct engineering studies for sophisticated clients, including lifecycle cost and payback analyses, evaluation of industry trends, and assessment of local contractor/maintenance practicesPrepare high-quality technical documents, including Basis of Design reports, engineering narratives, and written explanations for non-technical stakeholders to support informed decision-makingSign and seal mechanical engineering drawings and specificationsProject & Client ManagementServe as Project Manager or engineering lead for mechanical-prime projects, providing direct client interface and managing project executionDevelop project schedules, manage and track progress, and ensure on-time delivery of engineering deliverablesPrepare and manage mechanical engineering fees and resource plansWork closely with MEP department heads to allocate staffing and technical resourcesMonitor budgets throughout the design process and ensure alignment with project financial goalsCross-Discipline CoordinationCollaborate closely with architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and plumbing teams to ensure fully coordinated design solutionsSupport field questions, contractor coordination, and construction administration activities as neededMentorship & Team DevelopmentProvide continuous mentorship to junior engineers and designersDeliver presentations and contribute to in-house continuing education programsYour Capabilities and Credentials- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.- Proven technical writing skills and strong communication abilities.- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project).- Experience with Revit 2016 or newer (at least 25% of work hours in production).- Experience with Trane TRACE or IES VE energy modeling software.- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10%, including overnight trips.Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering from an accredited four-year university; - 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in commercial building design and construction. - Minimum 5 years serving as the primary engineering interface with clients (either as PM or engineering lead). - Minimum 5 years of project management and client-facing experience.Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
