About the Opportunity

MaxMed Healthcare, in partnership with ReadiForce Government Solutions LLC, is seeking a qualified Physician Orthopedic Surgeon (Traumatologist) to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii. The Orthopedic Surgeon (Traumatologist) will provide personal physician services in the Department of Surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in support of trauma, surgical, and orthopedic care on behalf of the Government. Position Snapshot

  • Location: Department of Surgery, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), Honolulu, HI.
  • Department: Department of Surgery
  • Schedule: Contract personnel shall provide services on Tuesdays, weekly, from 0630 1530, except when on one (1) of four (4) weeks of leave, scheduled annually with prior approval by the Orthopedic Department Chief.
  • Holidays: May be required to work federally recognized holidays (compensated at the regular rate).

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine and diagnose patients of all ages.
  • Provide preoperative diagnostic evaluation, care, and disposition of patients.
  • Perform major surgical operations as they relate to traumatic injury.
  • Provide didactic rounds on surgical and non-surgical patients.
  • Provide emergent and urgent consultation to other services at TAMC.
  • Attend and participate in patient care reports, conferences, and other professional activities.
  • Prepare all records and reports as required.
  • Participate in the education of residents, medical students, and other allied health professionals in preoperative workup, perioperative management, and execution of surgical treatment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Degree/Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency/Fellowship: Completion of an ACGME-approved Orthopedic Surgery Residency AND a fellowship in traumatology (or combined traumatology and arthroplasty) accredited by the Orthopedic Trauma Association.
  • Board Certification: Board certified in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience: Three (3) or more years' experience independently treating orthopedic injuries and performing surgical procedures (e.g., amputation of digits/extremities; arthroscopy of major joints; arthroplasty/hemi-arthroplasty of hip and shoulder; external fixation of extremity, pelvic, and joint injuries; extremity fasciotomies; fusion of selective joints; intramedullary nailing; open reduction internal fixation of acetabular, extremity, and pelvic fractures; surgical treatment of sacral fractures; and wound debridement).
  • Case Volume: Completion of an average of 100 orthopedic trauma cases per year for the previous 3 years.
  • Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • DEA Registration: Current, valid DEA registration prior to performing contract services.
  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

  • Must meet all DHA health requirements: immunizations, annual seasonal influenza vaccination, TB screening (TST/IGRA within 3 months of reporting to TAMC), and a physical examination confirming fitness for duty.
  • Must pass security investigative requirements, including fingerprinting and completion of an SF-86 (or equivalent OPM investigative product); Child Background Check if working with children.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (U.S. Citizen).
  • Time worked is recorded in the Defense Medical Human Resources Systeminternet (DMHRSi).
