Non-exempt Education Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below in the Certificates, Licenses and Registrations section Experience Completion of HM or comparable Occupational or Physical Therapy Residency program, or three years of experience as a Physical or Occupational Therapist Licenses and Certifications (Required) Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy state license BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association CHT - Certified Hand Therapist (HTCC) - Healthcare Technology Certification Commission Skills and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, particularly those impacting patient or employee safety or security Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a customer‑service oriented manner Increasing expertise in treatments for hand and upper extremity patient population Independent work with sound judgment in challenging therapy procedures and patient care situations Strong interpersonal, teamwork and leadership skills, delivering excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co‑workers Proficient computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems and standard rehabilitation equipment Professional and technical competence in the selection, evaluation, and utilization of treatment plans Essential Functions People and Service Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team‑focused work unit that actively helps one another achieve optimal department results. Preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced hand therapists (occupational or physical) and to Assistants, Technicians, and support staff. Provides guidance and, when appropriate, serves as a clinical instructor to students in clinical rotations and residency/fellowship programs. Service Performs complete and comprehensive evaluations of patients across a broad range of hand and upper extremity diagnoses and acuities to identify patient’s level of function and determine treatment plans. Provides education to patients, family members or caregivers and serves as a resource to colleagues on best practice in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Collaborates and communicates with the healthcare team to modify patient treatment plans, progress, and discharge planning for achievement of identified patient‑specific goals. Quality and Safety Assesses patients regularly, monitors progress toward treatment goals, and modifies goals, plans or programs as indicated. Recognizes complications or limitations associated with procedures and proactively addresses such for optimum outcomes. Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement, providing recommendations to meet departmental and hospital quality and safety targets. Provides oversight of patient care delivered by OTAs or PTAs and Technicians, ensuring quality outcomes and patient safety. Finance Uses resources efficiently to maximize utilization of time and equipment, meeting labor standards by managing established patient load assignments. Maintains accurate and complete documentation of patient education and procedures performed in a timely manner in the patient record; enters charges for services provided as applicable. Growth and Innovation Actively participates in departmental projects and community teaching opportunities, community services and/or functions. Assists higher level OTs or PTs with program development and/or clinical competencies. Seeks opportunities to advance and expand learning beyond basic competencies with a focus on continual development as a Certified Hand Therapist.
