UNIV - Lab Technologist II - Department of SCTR

Job Summary Under direct/general supervision of the Laboratory Technologist III and/or Research Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Technologist II performs complex laboratory tests and molecular procedures to support SCTR Research Nexus approved clinical trials. Responsibilities include sample procurement, processing, banking, shipping, data entry, record keeping, and responding to study team inquiries. Compliance with study, MUSC, SCTR, state, and federal guidelines is required. Job Duties 35% – Support SCTR Research Nexus Laboratory clinical research by performing sample processing, testing, and shipping according to clinical trial documents with high customer service levels. 25% – Prepare and maintain records for all procedures to facilitate reporting to investigators and NIH annual reports; assist in reviewing and reporting data; document atypical findings; respond to requests. 15% – Adhere to laboratory safety standards and assist in maintaining overall laboratory organization and supply inventory; develop and implement policies, procedures, and protocol written instructions for regulatory compliance. 10% – Perform complex mathematical calculations for reagent preparation and dilutions; conduct procedures requiring aseptic technique or special handling; assist in qualitative/quantitative tests. 10% – Provide cross‑coverage for COVID‑19 biorepository including specimen processing, documentation, and release to approved investigators. 5% – Perform other duties as required, including training/instruction of new employees in laboratory procedures and methods. Minimum Training and Experience Requirements A bachelor's degree in a related medical or scientific discipline; or an associate degree or equivalent technical training in a related medical, scientific, or technical discipline and two years journey-level work experience in a related field. Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred Master’s degree or equivalent additional experience preferred. Physical Requirements (Continuous - 6‑8 hours per shift; Frequent - 2‑6 hours per shift; Infrequent - 0‑2 hours per shift) Ability to perform job functions in an upright, seated, and mobile positions; ability to climb stairs; work indoors; work in all cold temperature extremes; bend, twist, pinching, use both hands/arms and both legs; perform repetitive motions; maintain vision, hearing; perform gross motor functions with fine motor movements; qualify for respirator use; work alone in isolated areas; maintain valid driver's license; computer literacy; work rotating shifts and overtime; learn new processes, tools and equipment.
