Special Procedures Nurse

As a Special Procedures Nurse, you will provide goal-directed nursing care that is individualized to the needs of patients and families during health and illness.

Under the direction of an attending physician or licensed independent practitioner, the RN provides technically complex nursing care for patients undergoing specialized procedures. Responsibilities include moderate sedation, intravenous infusions, specialized monitoring during procedures and recovery, comprehensive patient assessment, documentation, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care. The RN may also serve as Charge Nurse for the assigned unit.

Provides compassionate, patient-centered nursing care while incorporating age-specific considerations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.

Accurately completes patient assessments, documentation, and clinical interpretations while exercising sound nursing judgment and communicating significant changes in patient condition.

Recognizes changes in patient status requiring immediate intervention and initiates appropriate life-support measures while collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team.

Maintains nursing equipment, work areas, and supplies while ensuring emergency equipment is available and functioning properly.

Delivers exceptional customer service by utilizing AIDET principles and demonstrating flexibility in meeting patient and family needs.

Completes all required quality assurance testing in accordance with UChicago Medicine standards.

Assists with patient flow and staffing needs by rotating to clinical areas as needed and safely transporting sedated patients to designated recovery locations.

Required Qualifications

Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.

Associate Degree nurses must enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire and complete the BSN within thirty (30) months.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.

Preferred Qualifications

Leadership or Charge Nurse experience within the specialty area.

Experience working in a procedural or research environment.

Two (2) years of recent Critical Care experience.

Specialty certification in the applicable clinical area.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.

Current BLS certification.

Current ACLS and/or PALS certification, as applicable.

Schedule: 9:00 AM5:30 PM, 10-hour shifts

Weekend Requirement: No weekends
