Medical Director / Senior Medical Director, Immunology Clinical Development – Gastroenterology Job Type: Full-time Salary Range: USD 192,500 – USD 327,000 per year Therapy Area: Immunology Workday Grade: 21 Purpose With supervision, oversees the direction, planning, execution and interpretation of clinical trials or research activities of a clinical development program. Participates in cross‑functional teams to generate, deliver, and interpret high‑quality clinical data supporting overall product scientific and business strategy. Responsibilities Manage the design and implementation of study protocols for a clinical development program in support of the overall Product Development Plan, based on strong medical and scientific principles, knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements, and emerging issues. Oversee project‑related education of investigators, study site personnel, and AbbVie study staff. Maintain oversight of clinical studies, monitoring overall study integrity, and review, interpretation, and communication of accumulating data pertaining to safety and efficacy of the molecule. Collaborate with Clinical Operations to oversee study enrollment and overall timelines for key deliverables. Assess and report serious adverse events per corporate policy and regulations for those protocols for which the incumbent is assigned. Contribute to design, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of scientific content of protocols, Investigator Brochures, Clinical Study Reports, regulatory submissions, and responses. Serve as clinical representative on a Clinical Strategy Team for protocols under responsibility, if applicable. Collaborate with Medical Affairs, Commercial, and other functions in opinion‑leader interactions related to the disease area(s). Stay abreast of professional information and technology through conferences, medical literature, and other training to augment expertise in the therapeutic area. Ensure understanding of regulatory requirements related to clinical studies and global drug development, and support compliance with those requirements. Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practices, pharmacovigilance standards, SOPs and other quality standards when conducting research. Medical Director Qualifications MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree with relevant therapeutic specialty; residency completion strongly preferred; subspecialty fellowship in gastroenterology desirable. Experience in translational research preferred. Ability to run a clinical research study with appropriate supervision. Strong desire to collaborate in a cross‑functional setting. Clinical trial experience in industry, academia, or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements, and experience in design of study protocols desirable. Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Senior Medical Director Qualifications MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree with relevant therapeutic specialty; residency completion strongly preferred; subspecialty fellowship in gastroenterology desirable. At least 2 years of clinical trial experience in industry, academia, or equivalent; translational research experience preferred. Ability to run a clinical research program of moderate complexity with minimal supervision. Ability to perform and bring out the best in others on a cross‑functional global team. Ability to interact externally and internally to support a global scientific and business strategy. Knowledge of clinical trial methodology, regulatory and compliance requirements, and experience in development of clinical strategy and design of study protocols. Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Compensation & Benefits Salary range is USD 192,500 – USD 327,000 per year, subject to geographical location and other factors.
