RN Obstetrics Med Surg

Job Summary:

The Obstetrics/Med Surg Registered Nurse provides skilled nursing care in labor & delivery, postpartum, and recovery settings. This role also requires flexibility to float to the medical-surgical floor when obstetric patients are not present. The nurse will perform patient assessments, administer medications, plan treatments, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure high-quality patient care. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients in labor & delivery, postpartum, and recovery units.
• Float to the medical-surgical floor as needed to support patient care.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Document patient care activities accurately and timely.
• Educate patients and families regarding care plans and procedures.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to work in both obstetrics and medical-surgical nursing environments.
• At least 2 years of nursing experience preferred; less than 1 year acceptable with relevant skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in labor & delivery, postpartum, and medical-surgical nursing care.
• Interdisciplinary team collaboration experience.
• Driver's license, car insurance, and automobile for field work if applicable.

Special Considerations:

• Flexibility to float between obstetrics and medical-surgical units as patient census requires.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Scheduling:

• Shift assignments may include day, evening, or night shifts based on unit needs.
• Scheduling will accommodate floating between obstetrics and med-surg floors.
