Position Description Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Hartford, Connecticut. Compensation & Benefits Hourly Pay: $35.75 per hour Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification up to $700 Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter Sign On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days Schedule: Monday–Friday, weekends off Hours: Second Shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm Medical, dental, vision after 30 days 80 hours PTO first year, starting day 1 Yearly merit pay increases 401(k) company match PPE, uniforms, boot allowance Paid training to build skills Safety‑first workplace & state‑of‑the‑art equipment Top Tech Competition: earn $250–$50,000 per year U.S. military veteran extra paid day off 15% company stock discount Up to $5,000 in tech tuition repayment 12 weeks paid maternity leave (subject to specific eligibility criteria) Employee discounts on tools, vehicles, travel, tech & more Responsibilities Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including preventive maintenance Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision Replace defective components as instructed Work unsupervised on most tasks Perform facility maintenance duties Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint once assigned a task Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available Work in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels Demonstrate ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents Other support duties as required (e.g., Service Island support) SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220) Complete 2 of the OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses (within 365 days) Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (preferred) Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree (preferred) Basic tools required Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake and tire work Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems (required) Three or more years relevant work experience (preferred) All other certifications required by location (required) Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred) Minimum 2 years experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc. Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire Pass a Ryder drug test Pass DOT physical Pass Ryder road test Pass Ryder background and motor vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for last 3 years EEO Statement Ryder is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free workplace.
