OR Radiologic Technologist

The OR Radiologic Technologist is responsible for performing diagnostic radiographic procedures in accordance with established protocols to assist in the diagnosis of diseases and injuries. Responsibilities include explaining procedures to patients, operating imaging equipment accurately, and demonstrating clinical and age-specific competencies. This role requires selecting appropriate technical factors to achieve optimal image quality while maintaining radiation safety standards. Additionally, the technologist is responsible for reviewing images to ensure they are suitable for interpretation.

Requirements include being registered and in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), holding a TMB (state license), and having a BLS certification. Experience in OR operating C-Arm, extensive spine and ortho experience is necessary.

Essential functions include reviewing and interpreting physician orders for the diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately, validating all patient identification before performing any diagnostic x-ray procedure accurately, communicating with patients to obtain medical history and/or specific medical information pertinent to the procedure and/or patient's well-being during the procedure, validating proper working conditions and technical factors of all imaging equipment and procedure room, explaining procedures to patients to facilitate patient cooperation and alleviate patient anxiety; ensuring patient comfort and safety, assuming responsibility for patient care during the imaging procedure to include infection control, following procedure protocols and policies in performing diagnostic x-ray procedures, demonstrating competence in collimation, patient positioning and radiation safety to reduce radiation exposure as much as possible, practicing radiation safety/MRI safety for patients, family, visitors and self, critiquing all images for image quality for interpretation, actively participating in the Quality Control/Quality Assurance program(s), consistently demonstrating the ability to recognize priorities and deal with them promptly, establishing and maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with all members of the department and facility, demonstrating a willingness to learn new procedures and assist in other areas as needed, and participating in standby call as needed to support the department/facility.

Physical demands include sitting, conversing, and listening; using hands to touch, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; and standing and/or walking at least five hours per day. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry over 20 pounds on a regular basis and be able to push/pull over 25 pounds on a regular basis.
