TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: The Special Education Teacher provides individualized and group instruction to incarcerated high school-aged students and young adults within the correctional education setting. The teacher is responsible for delivering standards-based instruction, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), promoting academic achievement, and supporting students' social-emotional growth while maintaining compliance with educational, special education, and correctional facility regulations.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs

QUALIFICATIONS,
EXPERIENCE AND
COMPETENCIES:

Valid State Teaching Certification in Special Education

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or related field required (MA preferred).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES:

Deliver instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and high school graduation requirements.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in accordance with federal and state special education regulations.
Conduct academic assessments and collect data to monitor student progress toward IEP goals.
Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, abilities, and educational backgrounds.
Collaborate with correctional staff, school administrators, counselors, psychologists, related service providers, and community agencies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed within a secure correctional facility.
Must comply with all facility security procedures and requirements.
Frequent interaction with incarcerated youth and young adults.
Ability to maintain professionalism and appropriate boundaries in a correctional setting.

EVALUATION: Assistant Superintendent for Educational Programs

GRADE LEVEL: Secondary

SALARY: $60,000 - $85,000
