Field Calibration Technician

Job Description

To provide onsite calibration of test equipment for customers. Also, will have the opportunity to support the local Transcat laboratory when not traveling.

Responsibilities

Major areas of responsibility include calibrating measurement and test equipment to manufacturers specifications, determining out of tolerance conditions for customer M&TE and calibration standards, providing corrective action for out of tolerance conditions, updating and maintaining proper documentation of services, providing customer with information regarding other services and new equipment provided by Transcat, maintaining calibration standards, providing feedback and updates regarding calibration practices and procedures, proficiency in submitting and updating required paperwork for travel and administrative purposes, and other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements

Combination of local travel, using company vehicle, and overnight travel, as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Calibration experience and/or equivalent training with commercial and/or biomedical measurement and test equipment (M&TE), self-motivator requiring little or no supervision, customer service oriented, ability to interact with customers & coworkers in a professional manner, proficiency with MS Office and the internet; familiarity with basic database functionality, 3+ years driving experience with a valid driver's license and acceptable driver history, comfortable driving in all climates.

Education and Experience

Associate degree from college or technical school; or 2-5 years of related field experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Experience/Skills

Military PMEL training, strong attention to detail - able to follow written instructions, ability to plan and prioritize diversified workload and work independently with minimal supervision, excellent verbal and written communication skills.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle tools and equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Required to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours per day). Ability to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a 1,000-pound cart from unloading area to customer designated service area. Occasionally will be required to lift upwards of 75lbs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
