Welder / Fabricator

This Welder/Fabricator role focuses on welding, fitting, and assembling metal components in a fabrication shop environment using MIG welding processes. You will work from blueprints and work instructions to produce high-quality, structurally sound welds while maintaining productivity and adhering to safety and quality standards. Although welding certification is not required, you must demonstrate the ability to perform quality welds and safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on steel components in a fabrication shop environment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine job requirements.
• Fit, tack, weld, and assemble fabricated parts to meet specified dimensions and quality standards.
• Operate fabrication equipment such as grinders, saws, drills, ironworkers, and other shop tools safely and efficiently.
• Inspect completed welds and fabricated products for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the shift.
• Follow all company safety policies and consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Report equipment issues, material shortages, and quality concerns promptly to the supervisor.
• Work independently and collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and deadlines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support production and shop operations.

Essential Skills

• Previous welding or fabrication experience preferred, particularly with MIG welding on steel components.
• Ability to produce sound, consistent welds that meet company quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, basic shop drawings, and work instructions.
• Proficiency in using a tape measure and performing accurate measurements.
• Mechanical aptitude with strong attention to detail and quality.
• Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
• Physical ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, and stoop throughout the workday.
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds safely.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes.
• Ability to wear and properly use required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and a welding helmet.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with fabrication tools such as grinders, saws, drills, and ironworkers.
• Experience in production welding or structural assembly environments.
• Comfort with performing on-site weld tests as part of the selection process.
• Blueprint reading skills specific to structural and assembly work.
• Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and work on different projects as needed.
• Willingness to learn and follow established processes and quality standards.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing and fabrication shop environment that uses MIG welding equipment and a variety of fabrication tools, including grinders, saws, drills, and ironworkers. The primary assignment is on first shift, with the expectation that employees can work overtime as needed on weekdays and weekends, and remain available to work second shift if business needs require. The work area involves regular exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes, and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and a welding helmet must be worn at all times as required by safety policies. The shop emphasizes cleanliness and organization, providing a structured and safety-conscious environment for daily operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rushville, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
