Job Title Specialist, Software Engineer Job Code 38801 Job Location Carlsbad, CA Job Schedule 9/80 Employees work 9 out of every 14 days- totaling 80 hours working- and have every other Friday off Job Description The selected candidate will develop software for advanced tactical radio applications using computer science, engineering, and mathematical principles. They will collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to design and evaluate hardware/software interfaces, system requirements, and overall performance. Responsibilities include supporting all phases of the software development life cycle for embedded, real‑time control software, developing test procedures and documentation, analyzing results using modeling and test tools, participating in peer reviews, and identifying and resolving defects. This role requires proficiency in multiple programming languages and experience developing across Windows, Linux, and embedded real‑time operating systems. Essential Functions Participate in software sustainment activities for a fielded communication system, including addressing security findings and implementing system improvements. Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including design, documentation, implementation, and automated testing. Collaborate with team members to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance with program requirements. Maintain documentation and technical artifacts in accordance with project and customer standards. Optional occasional travel may be required to support program needs. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills Experience with CI/CD pipeline development Experience with Docker deployments Experience with FPGA systems Experience in developing software in TypeScript. Experience working on software that interfaces with hardware. Familiar with Test Automation Active Secret, TS-SCI or ability to obtain one. Experience with Python, Java, C, or C++. Experience programming in Unix/Linux environments including shell scripting. Experience with unit and integration testing. Strong development skills to include design concepts, supporting code reviews, and clear debugging logic. Salary & Benefits In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in California is $97,000 - $180,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
