Description:Provides on-ward security functions over forensic patients or residents of secure care areas of a mental health institution.Performs on-ward surveillance regarding safety and security.Escorts patients to and from off-ward activities or appointments such as meals, dental visits, laboratory, work details, recreational, and therapeutic activities.Investigates patient misbehavior.Observes and monitors patient behavior during meals.Intervenes during crisis behavior to prevent self-injury or injury to others, such as by applying restraints or assisting nursing staff in subduing or secluding violent patients.Monitors patients in seclusion.Searches patient clothing, individual rooms, and ward living areas for dangerous objects, contraband, or unusual conditions.Prevents patient escapes.Provides direct care, treatment, and programs to forensic patients and promotes activities through participation and interaction.Attends to personal hygiene and grooming needs by monitoring and instructing treatment plan programs.Encourages independent functioning and monitors or instructs patients in washing clothes.Conducts one-to-one sessions with patients to discuss problems or concerns.Provides adequate clothing and serves meal trays.Assists in administering treatments as directed by nursing staff.Prepares patients to attend psychiatric or medical treatment.Bathes, shaves, feeds, and dresses patients who are unable to perform these tasks.Leads patients in recreational activities.Assists co-workers in maintaining sanitary living conditions by performing general housekeeping duties.Prepares reports and documentation regarding patient and unit activities.Documents significant or unusual patient behavior in progress notes according to individual treatment plans.Completes restraint/seclusion, daily ward log, daily shift change, and incident reports.Completes work orders and stocks patient clothing and cleaning supplies.Prepares patient movement reports and keeps unit communication logs updated.Documents crisis interventions.Attends in-service training programs and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings.Responds to patient needs in emergency situations such as fires or riots.Demonstrates knowledge of agency policies and procedures related to client care and ward security.Recognizes unusual or threatening conditions and takes appropriate action.Deals with problems involving several variables within a familiar context.Reads short sentences with concrete vocabulary. #J-18808-Ljbffr
