Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Clinician—Inpatient & Liaison

Position Summary The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina‑Chapel Hill seeks a full‑time, fixed‑term Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW/LMHC) hire. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) team within the North Carolina Children’s Hospital Consultation and Liaison service and the department’s Behavioral Medical Integrative Health cohort. Responsibilities Provide assessment, consultation, and treatment for pediatric inpatients (toddlers to older adolescents) with chronic medical illness. Address grief and other psychosocial issues in collaboration with parents or guardians. Manage consult communication between the CAP team and pediatric physicians, residents, and allied health staff. Develop and maintain an active outpatient service for children and families with or without medical illness. Conduct independent psychiatric evaluations, including diagnoses of depression, anxiety, and other behavioral conditions. Collaborate with psychiatrists and psychologists on interdisciplinary treatment planning and attend regular team meetings. Apply empirically supported therapeutic modalities (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, ACT or similar) tailored to medical populations. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements LCSW or LMHC licensed in North Carolina at time of hire. Completed internship with appropriate child and family systems training. Minimum two years of independent practice post‑internship. Strong therapeutic skills with multiple modalities including CBT. Experience treating children, adolescents, and their guardians in medical settings. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment. Interest and experience working with underserved and under‑resourced populations. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
