Paraeducator Preschool Special Education

$24.76 per hour

Position Hours and Pay This position is for 6.75 hours per day at 146 days per year, 7 hours per day for 4 days for the first year, and 2 days each year following until certification is completed. Pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $24.76 (25-26 PSE Salary Schedule). Important Information Your hire date with the Bethel School District is based on School Board approval and may vary. Please contact HR with any questions. Required Training Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire; renewal annually. Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate per state requirements. Qualifications Must be 18 years of age. Hold high school diploma or equivalent. Must meet one of the following: Successfully pass the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment. Hold an Associate’s degree or higher. Earn 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at an accredited institution. Complete a registered apprenticeship program offered by Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries. Complete The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program. Provide official transcripts upon hire. Provide proof of passing TB test prior to official hire. MMR vaccination required. General Summary This position’s responsibilities are to assist certificated staff in a variety of activities for preschool special education students, including instruction of students individually or in small groups, supervising student behavior, and supervising student activities as assigned. Essential Functions Provide instruction and assistance to special needs preschool students ages 3 to 5 in a partially self‑contained/partially integrated program. Communicate with instructor and program specialists concerning individual student progress. Keep students focused on tasks and supervise behavior in classroom, playground, bus area, field trips, washrooms, and other sites. Assist professional staff in implementing targeted programs. Assist students with interpersonal and personal skill mastery. Establish and maintain communication with students, staff, and parents for progress, safety, and community relations. Assist students with physical needs such as lifting, positioning, and personal hygiene. Monitor health needs, administer medication as authorized, and refer for medical treatment when appropriate. Prepare and set up snacks and lunches, maintain inventory, and teach basic food preparation skills. Assist students with self‑help skills such as dressing, eating, toileting, and personal safety and hygiene. Assist students with physical movement and exercise under therapist guidance. Accompany instructor to home visits, document visits, and record observations. Maintain cleanliness and order of classroom, toys, and equipment. Other Functions Alert qualified district staff to student problems. Prepare, duplicate, collate, and distribute materials; operate office equipment. Assist instructor in maintaining logs, charts, and other assessment records. Serve on district committees and/or departmental work teams. Model appropriate behavior and protect confidential information. Perform related duties consistent with the scope of the position. Maintain log of student transportation information. Participate in meetings and training sessions. Work flexible hours to accommodate family and community activities. Reporting Relationships Reports to the Director for Special Services; receives guidance from assigned certificated staff. Mental Demands Frequent interruptions, task shifting, and handling a wide range of student behaviors and disabilities. Physical Demands Exposure to infectious diseases, noise, lifting students up to 50 lbs, moving equipment, outdoor supervision, and routine cleaning tasks. Minimum Qualifications Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment, with experience working with preschool and special needs students preferred. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Reading, writing, and communication skills. Ability to deal with students warmly and confidently. Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments. Knowledge of physical disabilities and behavior disorders. Organizational skills. Ability to follow and give instructions. Fairness and consistency in student work. Implementation of effective behavior and instructional techniques. Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures. Computer and software proficiency for instruction and record keeping. Use of general office machines. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students and staff. Licenses and Special Requirements Fingerprinting and background check required. Must complete district infection control training, obtain first‑aid/CPR certification, and maintain Right Response certification. Hepatitis‑B immunization is offered.
