Medical Support Assistant

The HBPC Lead Medical Support Assistant will be stationed at the location of his/her assigned HBPC team. The Lead MSA will intermittently travel to all the HBPC stations. Ensures the HBPC/HBTC programs operate effectively and efficiently under the supervision of the HBPC nurse manager(s). Ensures patient services are met and efficient workflow is maintained. Conducts ongoing reviews to ensure quality of the HBPC MSAs work. Ensures accurate and timely data and patient tracking in the HBPC team listings. Ensures accurate tracking of HBPC clinician workload activity and accurate and timely scheduling of appointments. Provides guidance to HBPC staff members to include changes in policies and procedures. Distributes and balances workload. Orients and provides on the job training for new and current HBPC MSAs. Identifies educational and/or training needs and ensuring all training requirements are met. Participates in applicable creation and revisions of HBPC standard operating procedures. Assists the HBPC program specialist and leadership with extracting and analyzing data to provide reports in support of performance measures and program workload activity. Reviews all HBPC MSAs data entry and reports ensuring completeness and accuracy and submitted by due date(s). Maintains automated system of program-specific data to track and works with nurse manager(s) and program specialist to implement a plan of action based on the data. Assists with compiling audits and gathering data to complete daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Prepares, prints, and interprets various management reports. Supports patient safety standards using the correct Veterans Affairs identification of all patients. Educates and ensures HBPC MSAs explain the VA's mandate to collect insurance information to veterans, their families, and other eligible patients. Ensures HBPC AMSAs enter health insurance information through the Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB). Promotes a positive environment. Ensures the first line of contact with patients, families and staff expresses the quality of healthcare services at the VA. Educates and ensures HBPC AMSAs process patient care records per the HBPC policy ensuring the health/administrative information are integrated into the electronic medical record. Ensures that all necessary health/administrative information are integrated into the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) by sending the documents to the appropriate department for scanning. Ensures HBPC AMSAs are trained on the requirements of HBPC VHA scheduling directives and complete accurate scheduling responsibilities. Intermittently rotates and participates in all HBPC team huddles and weekly team meetings involving patient care planning and management. Ensures the HBPC AMSA understands and adheres to their role during the team huddle and weekly team meeting. Manages position responsibilities with minimum supervision as well as set priorities and deadlines adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm
