Principal Electrical Engineer

ON.energy is setting the standard for large load interconnection. ON's patented AI UPS™ is a medium-voltage UPS that serves as a firewall, protecting the data center from the grid, and the grid from the data center. With multiple gigawatts currently under construction, we are enabling grid-safe data centers.


We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as a technical leader across On.Energy's product portfolio. This is a product-focused, senior individual contributor role requiring breadth across power systems, electrical design, systems integration and electrical codes and standards . You will set electrical engineering technical direction, lead complex design work, establish electrical standards, and mentor engineering teams across the Hardware Engineering team.


What You'll Do

• Serve as the technical authority for electrical system design across On.Energy product lines.

• Lead electrical architecture design including power distribution, protection coordination, grounding strategy, surge protection and overall electrical system integration.

• Support design verification through domain electrical design standards, specifications, and review frameworks for the product portfolio e.g. NFPA 70, IEEE, ANSI and UL standards.

• Stablish verification methods to demonstrate electrical design compliance to technical requirements e.g. analytical, simulation or testing.

• Perform and review electrical calculations, load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection, EMI, voltage surge studies .

• Lead design reviews and support root cause analyses for both new product development and field issues.

• Compile and validate product technical information packages including but not limited to SLDs, specs, and compliance documentation.

• Recommend vendors, components, and design approaches for key electrical equipment.

• Mentor and develop senior and mid-level electrical engineering knowledge across Hardware Engineering team.

Required Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering

• 10 to 15+ years of electrical engineering experience in electrical systems analysis, energy storage, or industrial applications.

• Expert knowledge of electrical power systems analysis, protection schemes, and grounding/bonding, EMI and overvoltage phenomena.

• Proven ability to produce and review SLDs, schematics, and electrical specifications at product level.

• Strong familiarity with NEC, IEEE, IEC, and UL standards applicable to electrical equipment.

• Excellent communication skills across technical and executive audiences.

• Willing to travel up to 20% for prototype testing and product commissioning.

Preferred Plus

• PE license or equivalent certification.

• Background in data center electrical backbone design.

• Experience with UL9540, NFPA 855, UL1741, UL1778 and other related battery storage standards.

• Experience with battery systems, power electronics, UPS, or mission-critical power system design.
